Challenge #32 - Time

I think I may have put one foot over the line between photoshop and photography in my first entry
but that was the idea I came up with and could not see beyond until I did it!!! My second idea (not my second entry which is above) was very photoshoppy as well. I was going to do a matrix type time stands still sorta thing (hard to describe) night time shot. I was going to have my kids stand still in a staggered line back from me according to height, in a field next to my house that has a road that runs right by it. Take one picture of the kids (or two or three) in focus and then take some long exposures with cars etc... going by in the background and myself, my wife and Angus walking back and forth through the frame. Then photoshop time... as I would have taken the focused pics of the kids and merged it with the timed shots.. to create a Time Stands Still photo of my children. That may not be explained very clear, but it would have involved some extensive photoshop work to get the final product!!

I love all the creative entries so far... anyone want to attempt the above idea feel free.

What a totally stunning collection of 'how to see' time. It would seem that there are two distinct areas of 'photo challenge'..now..and may be more, in future. Thus..creativity..on the march. Way to go folks..as these races being run..strengthen each who enters..and opens minds and eyes..as to the levels of ...'seeing'. I have thought of 3 more ways..that these 'styles/formats' could go..but ain't sharin!..there seems to be quite enough yeasty thinking going on now. ;) ina n HB

From B&W ----> Color

Edit #2: Should add that I only did the PS work. And that, to me, seems like the problem with combining the camera challenge with PS work. A lot of the pictures that I've seen on this site have been cool because of the content - not how they were manipulated in PS. Just my two cents. Now back to work to apply those patches. Gotta love that MS.

Wheatley that picture is so awesome it doesn't even look real!! Amazing that the person taking the picture caught it at just the right time. I'm sure you wanted something more serious, but that HAS to go on a newfie calendar!!!

OK Time to pick a winner. Man this gets harder with each challenge doesn't it? Wow! Great work everyone. I'll go pic by pic so your name may be listed twice.

Sheila I like the idea, but it's too many pictures.
If you'd figured out a way to convey that in one it would have been perfect. Tough to do though. Excellent try and great work!

Puppylove I *love* that picture. Definately a finalist for content alone. The color needed touching though.

Jeannie I like the picture of the train depot, but I had two problems with it. 1) It didn't say time to me. Maybe the building isn't old enough or I can't tell from the distance. 2) the overall pic is a bit drab. It just didn't grab me.

Prdmary I like the idea but too underexposed for my tastes. Content is good but the exposure disagreed with me.

NewfYork I just want that watch.
Taking pics of jewelry is a tough nut to crack. A light tent is the secret though you did pretty well without one. While the pic is OK, it's not magic. It didn't make me feel anything. Well, except that I want that watch.

Richard Hayes - Beautiful. Had it been running and I could see the weight swinging you'd have been in the running. Excellent idea though. Nice setup too!

Sar yours made me smile. Its like Yoda's ghost is visiting the flower.

Tonkatruck - wow. this one grabbed me. Out of left field and it works. No thought required, nice exposure. Seems oddly OOF is the corners but I was very taken by the image. Definate finalist.

AC I love the pic and it's caused me no shortage of thought about how to deal with photoshop entries. A finalist. You'll also see how I've decided to deal with photoshop entries soon.

Jeannie - no fair playin on the judges emotions like that! Seriously I thought it was clever on more than one level which always scores with me. To anyone but me (or a long time NNer) it wouldn't be anything but a pic of a clock though. (Thank you for buying one of those clocks!)

Chanel's Grace - I like the pics - the first one especially. To me they don't say "time" so much as "free time". I wasn't specific in what sort of time but these didn't grab me.

Black Newfs - someone had to do it!
While I like the idea and it certainly says "time", there's nothing special to the image. No magic - no pop... Nice setup but kind of dark.

AC your second entry is awesome. A multiple-level joke and I love those! A definate finalist. I was torn though.. the clock doesn't appear to be made out of thyme (is it?), but there appears to be some in the pic... I like pictures that make me think. I like the lighting here too.

Tonkatruck are you trying to stir up controversy? There are rules about that you know.
Clever, but it doesn't stand out as a photo.

Prdmary - nice. I would have liked more light on the dates, but the idea is a good one.

NewfYork - are you submitting a Dali as your own?
I was amazed at how small the original is!

Richard Hayes - nice pic, but I don't get the time thing...

Sue M - I like it, but focus focus focus!

ArrowNewfs certainly made me laugh the most! I love frozen tongue shots! Good looken dog too! I'm still giggling... Excellent example of a well exposed black dog though - the water is a bit blown, but it has to be to expose the dog. Only cure is bounce or strobe lighting. Nice job.

Migrandl - yours gave me flashbacks of being a kid. My mom would send our Saint in to wake me up. She'd revel in my screams of "No Mom! I'm up!"

Pam I'm not sure I get the time reference, but it's a great pic! Awesome face.

So who wins? Well the big two for me were the tree rings and ACs spice clock. The nod goes to TonkaTruck for this one. Something about it made me stare and stare.

Great job everyone!

Good choice, i really like the tree rings as well. GAD, I think it's great you go through each entry. Yes, the clock is powdered thyme. But did you get the full reference? Here's a hint... Scarborough Fair... and all 4 represented in order
.

AC
Congrats Tonka, great picture. Yes the rings do show time and the weather. Rings spaced far apart = good growing season, precipitation etc., closer together = slow growing year.
