That is a good idea. There should be 2 challenges because the photoshop entries are so awesome they tend to win quite often. These challenges were started for photography not creativity with photoshop. Everyone has a camera but not everyone has photoshop or the skills to make such awesome photos.

AC I love your entry. It is totally awesome.

Hey, that's not fair :( Some of us don't have great photography skills, or equipment capable of some of the awesome shots that only a better camera could do, or heck, the ability to take that shot even if we did have the correct equipment. So we resort to photoshop for our creativities, like someone else would resort a different camera setting to get the shot they are looking for. GAD himself has said that photoshop was allowed, and has even taken images that were posted here straight from the camera and enhanced them. I don't have a problem with starting a challenge for just photoshop, in fact it sounds fun, but the way this was stated made it sound like our photoshop creativity wasn't welcome.

Ok, maybe I'm having a bad day, but I just had to say that or I was going to burst.

edited because I said a bad word :( My bad!

Photoshop is allowed, but I'm thinking of having a seperate challenge for photoshop-only stuff.

The argument goes both ways. Some people feel that they can take good photos but don't have the photoshop skills.

There has never been a hard rule about using photoshop, but I think having separate contests could make for different kinds of fun.

I think moving forward I'll probably make the photo challanges something to the effect of "can be edited but only to enhance the original idea of the photo" or some damn thing. I don't know - I'm cranky too today.

Honestly, there are some here who are so good at photoshop that you'd never know the pic was altered anyway. While I hesitate to put myself in that category, the first image I posted in this thread was a horible photo of the watch laying on its side. I twisted it all around and made a pretty cool wallpaper out of it.

AC's excellent entry is different - more of a creation of a new image from others. I don't have that skill. what I *can* do is take an image like Puppylove1s and make it better.

My point in all this cold-medicine-induce rambling is that there are a lot of different ways we can manipulate images. Where to draw the line can be difficult.

oh dang it, now i am crabby! hahaha
i was going to ask specificallyto see if photoshop was allowed, all i did was add a small wilted flower. LOL and wow, some of thephotoshoped stuff is mindboggling good, and i aint referring to mine!!
i thought photoshop was allowed, if the rules change they need to be specific.
thanx gad and feel better!

Berto, i loved your pic, the tree is a wonderful example of time passage!!!
i had the trunk in my yard but, it is covered in moss that covers the rings! what a cool idea!

Photoshopping photos is allowed Christine. We were just saying that a seperate challenge for photoshop entries would be a good thing.

I didn't mean to offend anyone by my post. Sorry if I did. I am working to improve my photoshop skills. But I'll never get as good as some people here on NN.

hey maybe each subject can have a photoshop category
so the person can judge both?
it would help them to grow in their PS skills?
yeah?
no?

The idea of 2 seperate challenges sounds great. I am not very good at photoshop...... and probably not very good with my camera but it will make me learn both!

I like seeing straight-from-the-camera shots and edited pictures all in the same challenge...it makes for an interesting mix of submissions. Doesn't matter to me how/if the image was edited - it's the end result I'm interested in.

What I would like to see is people posting camera settings, lighting techniques and a brief description of Photoshop techniques used so that we can all learn from each other!

Rona....you know what they say....great minds.....

I was always intrigued with this Salvador Dali painting when I saw it at MOMA years ago.

Yes, GAD, I am jealous of my son's watch as well! All my money goes to my dogs though, so maybe one day for me! I am partial to Breitlings though, too,

OMG these are fabulous entries! WOW!!!
i cannot believe the talent that abounds!!
the only arguement i have with keeping them together is the people with the P&S cameras that are beginners dont seem to have a chance, otherwise their odds would be a bit better...
doesnt matter to me though, i just enjoy this section tremendously, win or not, it is always fun to watch the creativity that people have!
