How awful. Good thing that she did tell you. I have a few choice names for them too but they would not be allowed to be posted here.

I know this goes on in Canada, but how do "they" know certain seniors have grandchildren etc?

Oh no! How horrible! I feel so sorry for Nana. She sure didn't need that. Is there anything you can do to protect her now that she's given out her info?

It's bad here in the States as well. I've been getting LOTS of scam phone calls lately.

You might as well expect more of these phone calls. Can you block all phone numbers that aren't in your area code? That's what I ended up doing and I bought a phone that also allows me to block up to 100 individual phone numbers. I've blocked so many phone numbers, I'm going to use up my allotted space for them. But that doesn't solve the problem. When I block one number, they just call from another one.

Most of them are from "Microsoft" calling to tell me my computer is infected with a virus and that I need to give them the IP address of my computer so they can check it. Yesterday, some heavily accented man called from "the Windows Department" about my computer. After I told him that I knew he was a scammer and that Microsoft doesn't call people, he told me again he wasn't from Microsoft but from the Windows Department. What???? LOL. I told him his mother and father would be ashamed of him.

I also got a call from the bogus "Internal Revenue Service" telling me I owed thousands of dollars in back taxes and if I didn't wire money right away, the police would be here in seconds to arrest me. I told him to bring 'em on.

Then a couple of days ago, I got a phone call from myself. I didn't bother to answer, 'cause I wasn't in the mood to talk to myself.

What is wrong with these people?

So sorry to read this. Total asses for sure! I drill in my Mom all the time, tell them nothing. She is pretty good about not answering the phone if she doesn't recognize caller ID, but will a well spoofed number, she might. I even seen our number pop up on caller ID once.

This is awful. Seniors are being targets for scams more and more. Sadly, this is because they are the easiest population to manipulate, especially over the phone. I'm so sorry this happened to your mom. Can she get her SIN changed? This is such a mean thing to do to anyone, let alone an old lady. How can people like this look at themselves in the mirror? How do they look their own mothers in the eye?

I got Call Display which announces the caller or place of origin, sometimes it comes up Unavailable whoever they are. Anyway, that has cut out all the unwanted phone calls for me. Sometimes they leave a message, like I have won a trip to the Bahamas, how I wish lol.

I have gotten to the point, when I look at caller ID and don't recognize the number, I don't answer.

Jane, I've had the same calls.

Same thing happened to my dad. He has poor hearing so he thought he was talking to his grandson who was going to go to a Mexican jail if $ wasn't wired immediately. He was minutes from calling back to get wire $ instructions when his wife came home and told him he was being scammed.

It is such a shame that we are unable to trust.......We have to be picky and neurotic. I hope all is well and they cannot get at anything from her......I hate people scamming or stealing of any sort :(
