Any last minute advice?

Well the countdown begins...We are leaving tomorrow on a 3 week road trip where we will be arriving in Vermont and driving home with our new puppy. I have tried to think of what I could possibly need for the trip with the puppy and also proofing and preparing the house for when we get back. I am so sure I am forgetting something obvious :grrr: I have crate, toys, towels etc. Any last minute ideas?

We bought a cooler to hold bottled water and have a traveling water bowl for inside the car. Newspaper! See I just knew I was forgetting something obvious. We have plastic drop cloths to put under the crate and towels, sheets, and pee pads (depending on how far along the breeder has potty trained - Im hoping not to use) but definitely newspaper is a safe bet!
And check - my heart is prepared

Remember to be careful with a puppy who hasn't been fully vaccinated yet. He could pick up a nasty or deadly virus anywhere along the way.

Yup - super excited! Our pup will have had his 2nd series of shots and we have spoke with our vet and breeder and I hope to avoid as much as is possible places that have a higher risk of contamintating him. No park, rest areas, parking lots etc... We are going to try to avoid grass as well. Poor pup - but I am really nervous about distemper and parvo... Have bleach to dilute as well, just in case. Also have a list of NCA breeders in the states we will be crossing, in case we need a vet recommendation along the way. Whew.
Mary K. - LOL I can't believe you getting one for yourself! Although you do have the original = )

Got chew toys - ropes, a puppy kong etc. The only thing i couldnt find that I was looking for was a large plush stuffed animal with no squeakers - and a safe filling - that I could put next to him in case he missed the touch of a littermate. The one I ordered (for a baby) had plastic beads in the filling! I got wipes that are like a puppy shampoo type. A fan for the car and by the crate...and hopefully a camera that works well so I can share the pics soon. Thanks for all the input = )

Sounds like you are super prepared. Way more prepared than i was. I will say that when I picked up Kayak I had a really soft blanket with me and he sort of attached himself to it. He used it in his crate, when in my lap, and in the hotel. In fact he still trots around with it every once and a while. I'm probably over emotional, but wanted him to have a "comfort item" after leaving his siblings. He slept great with it both in the car and in the hotel. It's nice you have several weeks for this trip. I live in TN and drove to PA and back in two days to pick him up. We survived but I would take my time if I did it again :) Prepare to have your heart completely stolen. Please send pics :)

Something that I did when we picked up Moose was I took a towel and a blanket and rubbed them on his mom and dad so he could have their scent to ride home with. Another thing that REALLY helped my boy while sleeping (that you could use on the ride home) is go to walmart and buy a cheap plastic ticking clock. The sound reminds them of their mothers heart beat. I'd wrap it up in the towel that smelled like his mom and he'd go right to sleep. It really cut down on whining. Have fun, enjoy, take LOTS of pictures because everyone on here is right when they say they grow too fast!!!

Take a blanket and rub it along mum and put with the pup ,it helps settle them as a familiar scent, also a hot water bottle inside a cover as it simulated warm bodies against them.
Take a teddy or any soft toy as it will be lonely and bewildered to start with
