Ok so I never do this and not sure how I came across the ad....think I was searching for Newfie things to do in Cornwall.

Well I have just responded to an ad for a Newfie that needs a new home from a dreadful site called preloved....the thing is he is just up the road from me and I hate the thought of him ending up somewhere he shouldn't so couldn't resist. I am now panicking that the person wont respond and that the poor little man will end up god knows where....he is Kc reg so why haven't they contacted the breeder or newf rescue....have I done the right thing? Oh my so many things running through my brain.....

Those are all good questions. I hope you get the opportunity to ask them and answers that make sense. Maybe you can find out more about the organization, too.

As you are asking the questions, know that you can also get him into rescue from YOU! Some people and places are rescue adverse but will gladly rehome to a person with little info on them.
Good questions for sure, if they contact you... follow your heart.

I would get him and if you can't keep then you can contact rescue. Sometimes rescues don't contact you until its too late as was the case with me and Hershey...

How old is this guy? Is he free or are they asking a price? Just because he has an AKC registration means little. Pups from stores are AKC registrations too. Why can't they keep him? Most likely he is from a BYB or store.

He's in England Lynn.
Can you go visit the people who have him and ask some questions?

Hi guys thanks for the replies, they have not got back to me yet will try to call them in a bit....he is 7 months old bless him....the owners have been offered a promotion at work and will be travelling a lot so think it's best to rehome him. They are asking for money £500 but I have heard that people do this just to be sure that puppy farmers and god forbid dog fighters get put off. I wish I could get up there it's about an hours drive but I can't drive unfortunately....I know pathetic at 36 years old. I just find it odd how the breeder wouldn't be contacted first....I will try my hardest to get in touch and I will have him here even if it's just until I can get him into rescue....that's if he hasn't gone already....looked after contacting the owner and so many people advertise on that site that they want a young male newf....if he has gone I just hope it's to a nice home. Xx

Thanks all for the messages of encouragement it really helps x

Sadly there are Breeders who are not interested in pups tey sold in the past. My last rescue newfie Harry was one of them.he was registered and also the previous owners paid a huge amount for him. I am going to do Obedience and water work with him, but not under his registered name as i do not want to promote the Kennel he came from. he will just be Registered with the Australian kennel Club as an appendix dog...it happens that some breeders do not care, very sad. I hope he finds a forever home and if you have the time and space good for you, i hope it all goes well. We got harry at 8 months. 8-12 months is a very common time for dogs to land in rescue :(

So frustrated...despite all my efforts I think this young man may have gone. The owner has not contacted me.....rescue have looked into it but sadly in these cases not much can be done. It annoys me that people sell their dogs for a quick buck to anyone who comes along without thinking of the consequences. I know this person may have found a good family but it saddens me to think people are after what they think is a cheap Newfie, if people know the breed then they would go down the proper channels either breeder or rescue. I just hope he will be well looked after and not end up in rescue as a neglect or I'll treated case god forbid. I would have given them their stupid money then handed him over to rescue where a loving veted family would be waiting for him to give him the best Newfie life.

Some good news.....I think, the owner has emailed this morning saying they have been inundated with calls and emails about their boy, they have taken on board what I had to say and have decided to rethink the situation and will let me know their decision after the weekend. I have offered to have him should they decide to keep him when they have to travel away if that helps so will wait and see, hopefully this one will have a happy ending. Thanks all for your comments and help.

Well at least they have slowed down and decided to think about other options. Bless you for offering to help them out so he doesn't have to lose his home, though my parent's ended up with a cat and a beagle that way. :)

I have received an email from Dexters owners, they have asked if he can come to me so looks like I may be fostering a Newf any day. I will wait to see if they def bring him here but will contact rescue also just to update them....apparently the owner said there was a family in Kent that wanted him but not until the 26th July so dexter would end up in kennels until then....which I could not let happen. I will speak to rescue and see if the family could be vetted and assessed.....if indeed they will consider that.....but I am sure there are a number of wonderful families rescue have already that are desperately looking for Newf baby.....I will try not to fall in love too hard or I won't want to give him up but....it took 2 mins for me to fall in love with Frank, I will need to have my strong head on for once lol x

Sadly guys it's seems the owner would rather put poor Dexter into kennels then have someone who he has never met come and take him un-vetted than have him come to me until a suitable family can be found.....the guy wants his money!!! Gutted beyond belief and dread to think where he will end up let alone the stress of kennels for 2 weeks. I wish I could find out his breeder....I wonder whether they actually know one of their pups is being sold on. So frustrated.....

Sorry to hear that about Dexter. Know that YOU did everything you could to help him. Hopefully the new owners will give him a great home!
