Just FYI, the mother is fully CHIC cleared and Mojo is OFA Good, Heart normal by doppler, eyes fine, cyctenuria clear, brucilosis clear. So I don't think there will be a problem. All of his previous litter (2yo now) are just fine and getting their final OFA soon. This litter is by pedigree a duplicate to our Cody. Dam is the litter mate sister to Cody's mother.
That being said, if the pup turns up unable to work/do obedience, it's just fine. I already have Glory and Ranger who are disabled, so what is the difference if he has a loving and caring home.
Thanks to all for your kind comments and to those who are concerned...........I'm not. IT IS WHAT IT IS, always

In addition, this is the first litter in 3 years for my foundation breeder. Bitches don't always "take" and some reabsorb and sometimes we just miss the date. This breeding was a "natural" one since the bitch tends to have a very short interval between showing and ovulation. We missed it last time trying for an AI. So this time we decided to let nature take it's course. We do not breed "Show Dogs" but healthy, happy Newfs. If an owner wants to show.....that's their choice. One of my breeder's dogs who had a pulled umbilical at birth that a rust to the vet fixed, has trekked the entire mountain peaks of the Northeast with his owner.

My intention wasn't to offend you, Niki. I just assumed that you were wanting to keep a pup that would allow you to continue on your showing/breeding route. I was puzzled because pups are usually evaluated at 8 weeks of age for pet vs. show potential. The fact that, at just a few days old, you'd already made the decision about which pup to keep prompted my question. Knowing that you'll welcome into your fold and love this boy regardless of how he matures, is heartwarming. I also think the importance of dogs who go to working homes being structurally sound is a worthy topic. Best of luck with your boy and the rest of the litter.

Well said Ginny and my thoughts exactly. Even with the best of pedigrees and health clearances, things don't always work out. But the puppies that don't work out for what ever reasons should NOT be set aside for working homes. This happens why too often.

Best of luck with the breedings and puppies. It's always exciting to see the puppies develop and thrive from a favored dog.

That's ok, Ginny. We have staws on our 4 CH (2 are GCH) and they are fully cleared for hips, hearts, eyes, cystenuria (by test), brucilosis. That at least gives a a good chance for a sound dog. As always, some things can go wrong, but we at least try to keep the pedigree from being too close and be sure the temperament is good on both sides. Health and temperament are most important to us.

Thanks, Laurel. On that line for the mother, the white toes usually disappear by the time they are 1yo. He has a + white splotch on his chest, so that might make it interesting LOL

Thank you, Jessica. We just lost the tiny 14oz girl, so now we have 3 girls and 1 boy. All of them are healthy and beginning to try to walk

Lynn, one was stillborn and the other 2 were too small to survive. The remaining 4 were much bigger at birth and now over 2 lb.

Look at those precious babies, congratulations on your little one. I am sorry for the loss of the other babies that has to be the hardest for everyone involved especially their mother.
