Yak Butt

Think this is the best place to post this...
Maggie has very coarse white hair on her bottom. The rest of her coat is very soft. I am wondering if there is anything I should be doing to tame the butt? What are your tips and tricks?

I know nothing of grooming, but my dog won a raffle basket at the OC get together. Basically, it contained donations for your dog from Newf Net people. In it, I found this stuff called Silk Spirits-Liquid Silk Protein. It claims to give your dog's coat a silky feel, blocks static, and gives it a glossy shine. I have the worst hair in the world, so I tried it. I love it! It doesn't leave a film or greasy residue. I use it every day now. I'm sure it would work just as well on my dog. Don't tell anyone I stole from my own dog.

Dan here, My wife does the same thing with a product called Cowboy Magic. It is a detangler and shine. She is now getting her friend hunged on it.
Hey if it works, use it!

I may or may not have sprayed Ice on Ice on my own hair sometimes Stacy...

Frequent brushing and a conditioning spray like Ice on Ice is how we attempt to batter the yak butt into submission. Mal has really course undercoat back there.

there are quite a few horse products that are good too . I have used Eqyss rehydrating gel on my hair . If it can tame the frizz its good enough for Beau.

I test everything on myself first before subjecting Beau to it.

I've never used CM on a Newf, but I did have a Perch with massive amounts of mane, forelock and tail and a Clydesdale with heavy feathering and massive mane, tail and forelock and used it ALL THE TIME. It was a godsend and I'm sure it would work amazingly well on a tangly Newf-butt!

We use Cowboy Magic here...butt (get it) not even the grease that they used in the 50's to make DA's would work on his butt!

I'm a fan of ice on ice for Obie's Yak butt.. and yes, I too must confess, I've been using it for the last week or so on myself since I ran out of my leave in conditioner. Not sure how my groomer.. uh hairdresser.. is going to feel about that!

Hmmm...if people can use dog detangler on themselves, maybe I ought to try some of my detangler on the dog. (I bought a bottle of morrocan oil cream for curly hair instead of the usual stuff and have been contemplating throwing it out.) I'll let you know how it turns out...
