Won't eat supplements

Can you tell I'm a first-time Newf owner? I have about 10,000 questions. So Byron is on four different supplements which I give him with his meals. Once a day he's supposed to get a glucosamine and chondroitin tablet, but apparently he doesn't like the taste because every morning after he has breakfast there's a perfectly clean bowl with his uneaten supplement in the middle. I tried breaking it into little pieces, but then he doesn't eat any of the surrounding food. The brand the breeder recommends doesn't come in a powder form. Any suggestions?

I put a little peanut butter on the end of a spoon, and put the pills in it. Your pup should lick the pills off with the peanut butter.

the suppliments i give are mixed in with something, for instance, the smell makeral carries overpowers the bitter taste of the joint health tabs, and the ground turkey boiled, tastes to good to not eat everything in that bowl.

try different things, i also like the idea of peanut butter. ;)

THe other thing I do is open their mouth, put the pill in the back of their throat, close their mouth and stroke their throat till they swallow.

I have had dogs, lick the peanut butter or cream cheese off the pill and then spit the pill out. I also have one who seems to knw when the there is a pill in there and will not take it.

I do just as Joan suggested. Stick it in the oback of their mouths and make them swallow. I have given Samantha a pill I thought she swallowed she even drank water then she spit out the pill. The little burger. I learned to watch her closely after that.

Cream cheese or plain old butter works like the peanut butter does! I just scoop some on the tip of a spoon, put the pill in, smoosh the cream cheese around it and toss it to the dog. They eat it! Also a hot dog cut into sections with a pill in the section works. But you gotta toss it...they don't even try to chew. Just catch and swallow!!

I put all of Troy's in pieces of hot dog too - I don't need to toss them - he wolfs them down anyway. (I think I got really lucky on this one from some of the posts I've seen). Good luck!

You can also try marshmallows. If it's a bigger pill I kind of pull the marshmallow apart and stick the pill in and then close it up. For little pills, I pull apart a big marshmallow in half and then wrap the pill with the marshmallow. My guys love them! There's no fat in them either. I don't give them too many because they are sweet, but it gets the pills that don't go in their bowls down. I also use reduced fat peanut butter.

Thanks for your responses everybody. I tried all of them, but Byron is such a picky eater that the pill kept finding its way out of his mouth. I finally tried crushing it into powder and putting it in a little bit of warm milk over his kibble. He loves it. Thank God! I thought I was going to have to force it down his throat for the rest of his life...
