The fate of two young Newfoundland dogs should be determined by early fall, as a court hearing for an application to destroy the dogs brought forth by the Comox Valley Regional District concluded Monday.

The two dogs — Chum and Champ — owned by Black Creek couple Edith and Jacques Manseau are being held at the Comox Valley SPCA following seizure spurred from a Jan. 5 complaint of a vicious dog attack.

That's ugly. The woman who owns the Jack Russell is commenting on the news article, btw. Could be a troll but I don't know.

Wouldn't you think that the vet who treated the JRT would be asked to give a statement/share her or his report from the incident? Though that does not seem like it is the case.

Testomony from a Vet said that the injury to the Jack Russel was NOT from Dog Bites. Sound like a Neighbor Dispute, and the Jack owner is trying to get at the Newf owner. What a Load...............

Sad to see this - more Newfs in the news. This is truly something we should all be concerned about. It will not be long before Newfs are on the same list as Pits, Dobermans, Chows, etc., if these type of situations continue.

While this is indeed a sad situation, I can only hope that if this is a "neighbor dispute," then all will come out and the dogs lives will be spared. However, if this is in fact due to aggressive behavior in these Newfs, then sadly, the best thing for them may very well be to be PTS.

A vet but not THE vet who treated the JRT - assuming he was seen at the time of the incident, there should be a report, no? Smell fishy.

On a related note, we got our TDI paperwork yesterday so Cooper and I can start doing therapy visits. One of the suggested venues is the Oxford Public Library in Oxford, CT (where the Newfs killed a lab last summer). Part of me really wants to call them and see if they'd have a Newf, since they are looking for a therapy dog.
