Why do I do this? (NN)

I love animals, and would love to help out as much as I can. Well, today I saw a litter of lab puppies being given away on our local craigslist. She said, she needs to find them homes or she's putting them down! My protective instinct kicks in, I don't want them going to bad homes/breeders/labs in the area, so I sent her an e-mail offering to take them all off her hands (I think there were 5) so she wouldn't put them down. They look to be just a little bit over 8 weeks old, so if I take them, I'm going to have my hands full for a while (and by that I mean until I find a local rescue who will place them, I can't keep them for obvious reasons, but I also can't sit back and do nothing, hoping someone else will do it!

Am I nuts?

Is it possible to transfer them directly to a rescue. You would pick them up under whatever guise you choose, and then transfer them immediately to rescue. This would save the baby having any reactions.

Oh, you have the rescue gene....it's incurable, you now...but it can be managed. I have had to learn to stay off Craigslist, out of pet stores and volunteer at a shelter but insisting that I not interact with puppies.

I think Jane's suggestion is the best option...it's almost impossible to just walk away without doing SOMETHING.

If the puppies had any contact with my daughter, it would aggravate her allergy for sure, so i`d have to make sure they got trasfered from that owner to the rescue as quickly as possible. If I had to keep the pups overnight, I could manage that by keeping them restricted to certain rooms, but I obviously wouldn`t be keeping them long at all. I'm waiting for a response, but I do have to learn to manage this a bit better.. I'm thinking no more craigslist for me!

Caitlin, you do this because you have a big heart. If there is anything I can do to help out, you know where to find me. Otherwise, I wish you the best of luck.

I get it. Last year I took a 3 year old intact male - 190 lbs from a man on Craig's List. It seemed that he was chasing sheep. I picked him up, drove 2.5 hours to the head of Rescue and delivered him. I recently found out he is now in his forever home, sleeping on the end of the bed. Pretty good for a dog who had never been allowed inside & wasn't housebroken! I get it, I really do :) Good Luck!

I'm sorry but... I DON'T get it. Not when your child's health is involved.
Not trying to be mean here but...since you opened the door I must step in.
Caitlin..your heart is huge, yes, but think with your mind..

I wasn't thinking of keeping them, lol, just delivering them from point A to point B with possible night between the 2 days depending..

Either way, I haven't heard back, so I just have to hope that she doesn't let them go to a lob of anything like that, those poor pups, I hope they can find a home.. The ad is gone now..

I would have done the same thing although I didn't know about your baby's allergies. Still I don't think you're nuts at all and I'm sure none of us who do rescue would think that.

Last year one of our Toronto Animal Services went to a private rescue to help them with 3 dogs they had that were older and deemed unadoptable. I was chosen to pick up these 3 dogs and bring them to my home. I was supposed to foster one and the two others already had foster homes and it was already arranged that the two would be picked up the following day from my home. It turned out that the one I was to foster was the only one of the three that didn't get along with other dogs. He was here for two days and went to a forever home. The point here is that in just a few short hours we was able to save the lives of 3 dogs and that's what it's all about in the end.

I didn't realize you're in Quebec. I too will help you in any way you need. If you need a home for fosters I'm here.
