whitish milky discharge

We have noticed for a bit now that JoJo has had a foul smelling back end. To the point that she'd roll on her back in her sleep and stink out a room. I never saw anything and attributed it to her not squating like she used to and ending up with drying urine on her fur. After all she is somehwere between 10-12 yrs old based on what we were told when we got her. Well today I was trimming the hair down there and saw a white milky discharge coming out of her vagina. She is spayed so I dont think it would be pyotrometira (ok I know I just spelled that really wrong!) but I'm not sure what else it could be.
Is there ever a normal reason for a discharge like this?
Any ideas or feedback is appreciated, I'm calling the vet tomorrow for an appt.
THANKS

not positive but the anal glands are quite close and they can block up and cause a smell. hope you get it sorted quickly

The general rule of thumb is smell + discharge = infection...you are right to take her to the vet. Hope she is okay.

Sounds like vaginitis. Lucy got it several times before her first heat. Not since. Maggie, on the other hand, has gotten it frequently, and she is spayed.

I find that keeping the fur around her privates trimmed very short helps to eliminate the problem. Also, if she gets a bit smelly, I wash her off. You can use some wet wipes (I use the sensitive skin type), or a quick jet of water from the shower or hose helps in a pinch, too.

Ask your vet if she needs an antibiotic. They don't always.

Our puppy has what the vet said is puppy vaginitis - but I know yours isn't a pup. Anyway, he said that spaying her before her first heat if she continues to have this condition might cause her to have it for the rest of her life. She is on Clavamox right now to see if it clears it up, but if she continues with this vaginitis, we will have to wait to spay her. What is your girl's history? How is she now?
