Where does everyone work?

Not sure if this has been a topic before or not (I got so caught up in the Newf forums, I totally missed there was a general chat one), but what does everyone do for a living?

I'm currently a college student, doing an online program in my state (MN) for elementary education. Not sure if this is what I want or not!

Also, anyone who has been layed off, let me know, I'll keep you in my prayers. This economy is creating tough times for everyone, and it's just horrible!

I am currently a stay home mom with our 4 yr old daughter. Before that -- waaaay before that I came to MA in '89 for college for Vet tech, and went into the cancer /medical research field. I did that for ~14 yrs, then decided to work in group homes with mentally and physically disabled adults. I love my current job the most and hate the thought of going back to any type of work when she starts Kindergarten this fall.

I'm a Registered Nurse and I work in a Surgical Neuro-Trauma ICU. I plan to go back to school this fall to pursue a Nurse Practitioner degree.

Funny there are so many in the medical field! I stared out in college as a wannabe RN. I completed all the pre-reqs, then got into Nursing school but shadowed in my town's ER before I started the program and couldn't handle it. So I didn't go through. I really wish I could have, and have even considered doing an online LPN program. Wish I could get past getting past the heebeejeebees that being around medical procedures makes me get.

Can LPN's be clinical nurses? That I could maybe do! :)

Hi Chantel! Yep...they can...however now many states are phasing out LPNs. I would honestly suggest doing the RN program if at all possible. There are quite a few two year RN programs out there if time is an issue. I personally did the bachelor's program but there are quite a few associate degree RNs as well. Hope this helps!
P.S. You DO have to have an iron stomach though to be a nurse....;)

I'm also a teacher...I'm really in it for the money. Before I got my teaching license, I taught at nature centers etc. for 10$ an hour. Now I'm salaried teaching middle school science. My life science kids LOVE my dog stories, we talk about genetics and adaptations. I currently don't have any human kids though, I don't know if I'll be able to raise my own kids while helping my students' parents raise their kids! I've also thought about going back to school for physical therapy.

I'm an R.N. work in open heart ICU and cardiac catheterization lab. Going back for my masters shortly to become a nurse practitioner that I've put off doing for years, and am kicking myself now for waiting.

I'm a financial planner currently in school pursuing CFP (Certified Financial Planner) certification. I have a great job-we focus on advising/planning for families with individuals w/disabilities-a hugely underserved market-so even when the markets are down-business is good. We work for less than most but the personal satisfaction makes it so worth it.
