When are they 'teenagers'?

I was complaining the other day about Ada being a brat since getting back from camping...but thinking about it, she was kind of being that way before.

She's 8 mos. now. Could I be seeing some teenager behavior here? She'd been getting very good about not cruising the kitchen counters and stuff...then she started again. And worse, she's started jumping on us.

I do think some of it is that she can't go to puppy daycare any more, and we're a lot more restricted in social activities for her. (It's also kind of frustrating because now that she's bigger, people are getting scared of her and especially not letting her socialize with other dogs.) On the other hand, some of this change is very sudden, so I don't think it's strictly a function of that.

I've also been playing 'chase' with her more often, and I'm wondering if that's starting to bring on this view of us as playmates, which might be leading to the jumping.

I wish they came with manuals!!!

Bo is 8.5 months, and he's also started jumping. He and Ada must be in the bratty teenage years (months).

Welcome to "high school" LOL . I took Angus back to obedience classes again at that age, as much for socialization as training, since he didn't have a lot of interaction with other dogs. It was great. He was acting just as you describe.

Gilly just started jumping on us too (she bit my hair bun several times during our training class...I doubt if we will graduate...) and way more attention seeking. She's almost 8 months.

Mal is 9 months and has entered the teenage years wholeheartedly. And he'll pee on anything. Never had a dog that marked things before, very annoying. He pesters River, pesters the cats, pesters the toothpaste (don't know why, he just loves the darn toothpaste tube). Good thing we're starting another class soon! We've been better about enforcing boundaries and it helps, but he walked into the daycare office this morning and marked one of the beds. I was so embarrassed! Good thing they love him there.

If I had to tell you River's teenage years, they started at 5 weeks and she still has relapses.

I tell you Sallie, if we weren't 100% sure they weren't brothers, I would wonder! They've been in sync their entire development! I think we need pictures of Mason!!

Buddy came to us at 15 months - in FULL ON bratty teenager mode (and we didn't even get to enjoy the 'cute' puppy bit first *LOL*) I'd say he had mostly progressed beyond that by the time he was 2.5 yrs (but oh man what a year it was). He's just over 3 yrs now and is mostly a very well behaved and obedient house dog, but he can still have his moments.
