We have managed to avoid hot spots for the last 5 years but last night my poor Jorge kept us awake all night on checking him over there it was...a nasty horrid hot spot :( shaved it down but he was in pain- its right at the base of his tail around 6 inches long, he is so stressed by it :( a trip to the vets he had a bit more of a shave, a 24 hour pain injection/anti inflammatory, some antibiotics and cream :( the vet said his glands were full and he thinks thats to blame for the hot spot, will sleep with him again tonight so I can watch he doesn't chew it, have ordered a softy collar to come tomorrow. My poor baby bear :( really hope it goes away soon!

Poor Jorge :hugs: :hugs: to the big Bear.......

My Zacky had stress hot spots all the time, I used our horses purple spray on it and it dries nicely. Just watchout for your walls, purple patches do not look good. The purple stuff was gention violet and chlorhexidine. plus some other stuff. worked really well :) Ronnie

Painting gentian violet on the hot spot actually works too, only it can be messy and stains.
If he's stressed maybe a squirt of rescue remedy will help him.

Hope he's feeling better soon.. I use lavender essential oil on our hot spots. Works great!

I use chlorhexiderm flush on Lucy's hot spots. Seems to take the itch and pain out of them, as well as killing germs. Treat a couple of times a day, on and around the spot, until it heals.

Hope he's more comfortable and healing, soon!

If the hot spot is stubborn, ask your vet for Neo-predef. It has worked on mine when NOTHING else did the trick.

I second the recommendations for chlorhexadine and for neo-predef - both have been life savers here.
