Water Training at Jeannie & Gary's Drool Pool

I was so pleased to find a message on our voicemail yesterday from Jeannie. She invited us to come up today for water training. She told me that Susan Kerby was going to be there, so Russell & I planned to go.

We packed our crew up this morning and headed north in the midst of a driving rain. Dubious that we'd ever see clear skies today, we arrived to find Jeannie & Susan down at the pond. As I walked down, I was happy to see the hint of blue skies, and, within minutes, the sun was out, the rain had stopped!

Russell followed me with Sailor and Cora. Sailor went straight into the water, and we have discovered that he is a retrieving machine! Cora was less than thrilled, but Susan had us put a long line on her, and Susan coaxed her into the water! It was wonderful to watch her swim. Susan and Russell even got her to jump on the dock! Sometime later, I got her to jump to me, and she came in the water. She swims very well, and like Patty was with Akira, I was so very proud!

Kira came next, and as expected, had a blast. She swam, she jumped, she ran. She was a little rude in going after other newf's bumpers! We have to work on that!

Troy boy came down, and waded around a bit. I didn't want him to get totally immersed because of his skin... his hair is growing in nicely, so maybe next time.

Here is a link to the pictures I took. Sadly, I didn't get any of Cora...
I had left my camera in the car because it had been raining. Oh well, maybe next time!

WOW! We had a blast! I have two VERY tired Newfies here today! :D Everybody got a turn, and everybody played nicely with one another, so all went well!

It was a joy to spend the day with so many different ages and sizes of Newfies! Jeannie had the oldest and the youngest, but in total there were 11 Newfies there, with 9 working/playing at one time. They kept us busy, to say the least! haha

The interesting thing was watching the different personalities doing their own thing.....Russ and Annie's Kira was the absolute busy body, constantly running around the pond, and then going in from every direction to investigate anything that caught her eye. Then Sailor had to clean the pond of any misc. bumpers forgotten by lesser Newfs. Cora swam beautifully, with a very efficent stroke, and then went to watch over the herd, then occasionally returning to cool off!

Jeannie's little boy Adam, swam like a fish, and we worked on him going to save the victim, as well as jumping off the dock....he's a very brave boy! Sara had everybody fooled that she would go out ten feet into the water to save the victim and then stop, so a long line gave her the needed confidence to continue on out to dad! ;) Panda did an excellent job of checking to make sure everyone was okay....she never took her eyes off of anybody, and would not leave the pond area until everyone was out of the water!

We had a young boy named Lance who is only nine months old, and full of himself, but decided that swimming to his dad was pretty cool.....Mom and dad were amazed that he learned to go around instead of climbing on, then he even jumped off the dock, so he was definitely a star!

My girl Lu is very tired today, because she never stopped retrieving that bumper! She thought she had died and went to doggie heaven with SO many people to throw it for her. My boy, Coast, got into the mix pretty good, and I'm happy to say he learned he could actually put his head under water this weekend and retrieve his underwater toy! There might be a WRD in this boy's future yet!

Overall, it was a great day, and the hamburgers on the grill and corn on the cob were awesome!

Yes, we'll have to do it again sometime! Jeannie, you have a beautiful place, and thank you for letting us enjoy it too!

Susan, Lu and Coast tooooo!

That must have been tons of fun! Who'd have thought Sailor would be a retrieving machine. How about it Annie and Russell? Do I see WD in Sailor's future? Love the pics of him sprawled out on the dock! It's wonderful to hear that Jeannie and Gary's Sara went out for a swim too. What a wonderful weekend for all of you!

Sorry! I goofed, that was Jeannie's Sam who went out not Sara. Sara was the star of the living room whom everybody went to greet, and she ate her Oreo's just like the rest of them! She's got that great tail wag going and who can resist the old guys! What a great girl!

Yes everyone had such a wonderful time. I wish we could do it every weekend. Susan is an excellent instructor. I cannot believe she had Adam, who is only 20 weeks, old jumping off the dock and swimming. He was scared of the water at first, but with Susan excellent advice he caught on very quickly. When we started working 'take a line' with Sam, Adam had to swim to Gary too!! Then he swam to Annie a few time!! He is a little fish, if I may brag some!! All the the newfs and people had such a wonderful time. We took a mid day break and grilled some hamburgers with corn on the cob. It was a wonderful day for all. I had 3 sore and tired newfs here yesterday. They are much better today.

I got some great photos. But they are on my new digital camara Gary got me for my birthday last Thursday and I have not had time to install the software. As soon as I get it done I will post photos. (The camera is so cool--it even makes mini movies!!)

Oh I have decided to nix the name "Drool Pool". My sister thought of of name I like better. "Paddle Paws Pond" What does everyone think of that?

Me too! The Drool Pool was cute... but this is such a glorious pond, that the name fits better!

Oh, what great shots, Annie! I hope to be there with you guys and Troy-Boy one of these days! All of the pictures were wonderful, but I think my favorite was Gary trying to convince Adam to jump. He just looked so little......

My favorites...

Gary lifting Adam back on the dock to jump again...better do it while you can...he is so spoiled...

Number 15...classical Annie butt shot....

Too cute. I wish I could have come and played.

Paddle Paws is a great name. What a beautiful lake - I'm so envious. Great pictures.

Will you be able to make a mini movie and show it here? Is that possible?
