Walking On Water

Today was the first time this season that me and the furkids were able to walk on water. Murphy, as he is every winter, was a little confused as to why he couldn't swim. It is COLD here. Walking back to the van into the wind my face nearly froze. I love our winter walks on the back bays of the EauClaire river, but I am really starting to hate the cold the older I get. Guy, that offer to move south is looking more and more attractive. LOL

I think walking out on the ice would freak my boys out!! It would probably be pretty funny to watch.

About the cold weather, I think we tend to always want what we don't have. When I lived in Colorado the cold and snow could be miserable but know I live in California. We were wearing shorts and tank tops on Thanksgiving and that's just wrong!! I would just love to have some nice winter weather during the holidays at least. I really just miss the seasons. All we experience here is warm, hot, and hotter. Yuck!!

Morgan refuses to drink water while in her crate - don't ask me to explain it, I haven't figured it out. But she looooooves drinking water. She always makes a beeline for the outside water dishes as soon as she gets out the door. The first morning this fall that she stuck her face in and found a sheet of ice was amusing to watch - as it is every year. She always thrusts her face into the dish, and when her nose was unexpectedly stopped by the ice, she pulled back, looked confused, then angry. She pulled up a front paw and BAM, slammed it into the dish as hard as she could. It worked that day and she got her pre-breakfast drink.

After several weeks now of sub-freezing temps, she's completely accustomed to the fact that the outside water bowl is frozen solid in the morning. She doesn't even try to break the ice anymore and waits semi-patiently for me to thaw it out with hot water and refill.

It was 9 degrees F yesterday afternoon, with a biting wind that made it feel worse.

At one point, Ernestine started barking and I looked out the bay window to see two kids trudging home from the high school. They're both bundled in parkas, but nonetheless, one of them is wearing shorts.

One must suffer to be hip.

(PS- John... did that game s*ck, or what?)

Bob, yes it s*cked, but that said, the boys in green and gold have far surpassed any expectations I had for them this year. I think they are a year away from being legitimate contenders and I was really impressed with Mr. Rogers. So who knows what may happen down the road.

John- you're absolutely right. It was very encouraging to see how well the team played without their Hall of Famer. Brett won't be around forever, and Aaron Rodgers did a hell of a job, all things considered.

Jane- boy, do I remember snow on Long Island when I was a kid. My mom did not drive, and I remember more than once walking with her through the snow to the Bohack's market by the railroad station, then coming back home with a sled full of groceries.

My friends and I would ride our sleds down the "hill" on Rhode Island Avenue, between Central and Franklin. When I got older, I was allowed to walk the mile-and-a-half to exit 29 on the Southern State Parkway, and sled down the grassy slopes inside the cloverleaf.

Weekends were the best, though; that's when my dad would take us to Bethpage State Park where the real hills were.

Thanks for sparking the memories.

And to keep things Newfie-related... the very first time I tried to get a Newf to pull a sled was when Sue and I lived in Mattituck some 30-odd years ago. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, and just rigged up a harness and used some rope to tie a Flexible Flyer behind Triton. :icon_stupid:

The poor boy was terrified by the contraption and took off running down the road to get away from it. The faster he ran, the faster it chased him. Finally, he tried to run beneath a fence, and the sled caught on the other side and the ropes broke.

Poor sweet boy; I never tried that again!

Anya is loving this weather...it's a little too soon for me to have this cold and snow. But, eventually I will face it today and get the dogs out to the dog park.

Just so happens that the guy 2 doors down from me is thinking of selling! I talked to him a couple of weeks ago, and if/when he sells his business, he's thinking about buying about 20 acres somewhere and building a smaller house on it!

Snow - wonderful!! Heat - fantastic!!!!

Here in England we have assorted rain. There's heavy rain, light rain, rain that gets into your wellies, rain that runs down your face, very wet rain, not quite so wet rain and just plain rain. If it's not raining heavily then it's raining lightly. Tonight, just for a change, we have wind and rain. Even the newfs are fed up - they don't mind the rain, but Ben hasn't quite mastered which way to stand when cocking his leg to avoid blow-back in the wind. (and rain!)

It must be cold if you are walking on water there!! :uhoh2: It does sound like fun though!
Wow, Bohack's Bob!!! You have a good memory! I was going to say that you are dating yourself with that memory, but then I guess I would have to say the same of myself for remembering too! :icon_redface:
I can't imagine having Christmas in a warm climate though. I have a friend in Fla. that was out decorating the palm trees!

We are in O'fallon tonight which is very close to Belleville, (where the Germaines live) and where we are showing tomorrow. I've got news for you, it's not far enough south for me. I am sooooo looking forward to joining Sheila, Angus, Riley, Judy, and the rest of the Florida gang in January!!!! Now that is far enough south!! :sunflower::groovy:

We're midway.....which can mean you get nailed with snow...or not. Depends on which way the wind blows.

Here on the shore, we get much less snow than we did in the 'burbs of Baltimore. In fact, we're just below the "snow line" for the Eastern Shore of MD. So a mere 10 miles north of us can get blasted and we'll get a flurry.

If it comes from the East tho (off the ocean - a nor'easter) we get killed. Fortunately that only happens about once every 10 years!

I wish we'd get a couple of good snows per year. Then it can go away.......

There is a saying in Norway... "There is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing" well i have the clothing and the weather still stinks! Snowed on Monday, rained on Tuesday... still raining and it's Saturday.
I have given up on flat ironing my hair and have embraced my curls. My sexy, and super cool shoes are put away and now it's time for waterproof boots and nasty looking shoes with thick soles made from real rubber so u have more traction on the ice. Put on ice cleets are my friend, and i use them often.
In winter one must cover the mouth so stay on lipstick is a must... or at least lip protectent, and lets not forget the ever endless of the one glove that is missing.. i must have 100 pairs of mismatched gloves!
And the dark.... oh the dark ! The sun sets by around 3ish and up again around 9:30 am... my poor body is so confused.. I'm so tired in the winter i just want to go to bed.
The good news... THIS MIGHT BE MY LAST WINTER IN NORWAY!
