Happy Birthday to my sweet Ursa Midnight!
Almost 11 years ago I picked this sweet girl from pictures e-mailed to me offering free newfoundland puppies. She was the only one of 9 that was looking at the person holding the camera and I wanted a "people" dog. I sure got one.
She is my funny looking newfy, short haired, stubby tailed, long nosed, but she is 100% newf in temperament and spirit.
In eleven years we have gone from raising a house full of grand children, to just us old folks and Ursa, to adding Bella Bear and then Takota to the family. Through it all, Ursa has been.... Ursa. She has helped teach the grandkids what isn't safe, let a neighbor (70+ yo lady) know that cleaning her gutters on a ladder without anyone knowing is wrong, teaching Bella how to behave around the kids and people and now teaching Takota manners also.
You have been the rock, the nuzzle when needed, the head to love, the protector is required and so much more.
Nearly a year ago, we got the scary news that a growth was cancer so this birthday is all the more special (and a little bittersweet) so we didn't know if you'd make it to this one, but with that same spirit that got everyone (even those afraid of dogs) to stop and love on you, you have loved on this past year. We love more than words can express.
You will always be my baby girl, my rock and my inspiration to get out there and just enjoy life every single day! Happy 11th Birthday Ursa! :allg069:
Ursa last month enjoying the snow and the picture that started it all.

Happy Birthday to one who has been such a huge part of her family. Enjoy. Enjoy while you can. Every minute is a gift.

Stacy, Ursa was an "accidental" breeding that they weren't prepared for in any way. The litter wasn't registered so finding homes was not easy for the family I'm guessing. And Ursa would have been difficult for them to get much for anyway with her less than newfy looks. She was meant to be with us as I wasn't actively looking having just taken on two toddlers full time 2 months before, but I couldn't pass up that face. lol Since then the newfs have all been rescues, one of these days I'll get another puppy and that one will be from a reputable breeder. :)
