Scout got sprayed by a skunk last night! He's at the spa getting de-skunked. We put baking soda on him to neutralize the odor and rinsed him well but... the odor is lingering. Hopefully when I pick him up later he will smell better. He just has to! I guess it could have been worse, my neighbor's dog has been sprayed a couple of times this year! :ah:

We had this happen twice in one week with our mix. It was so bad, directly in the face, and smelled like burning rubber! I found a recipe on line that you mix (in an open container!) and it worked very well: (We also bought Skunk Removal at Wal-Mart for the next time, since he hasn't learned his lesson.)

From www.aaanimalcontrol.com

Here is the secret recipe that WORKS. Mix the following:

1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
1 teaspoon liquid soap or dish detergent

Mix these together and bathe ("shampoo" in or rub down) the spray victim thoroughly.
Be sure to use this mixture immediately after it is created, as it is unstable.
Rinse with tap water afterward, and repeat if necessary.
For spray in the eyes, flush with water as soon as possible.

Skunk Kleen is an amazing product! We used it on out our last dog and she was able to sleep in our bedroom the same night she got skunked. I tried the baking soda/peroxide/dish detergent formula the first time she was skunked, and while it helped, she still smelled a little whenever she got wet for over a month, and the peroxide turned some of her hair red. I bought Skunk Kleen after that and hoped I wouldn't need to use it, but when I did I was blown away at how well it worked.

He smells much better now, but I will definitely look for that skunk Kleen to keep on hand just in case!
