Anyone want to comment on a 2002 35" (not a typo) Montana Mountaineer. We are going to look at it tomorrow. We do have a vehicle to tow it, a f250 v10 triton, gets a whopping 2-5 mpg while towing, but we arent planning any cross country trips and $4 gal.. anyway, we were thinking that should be good for 1 newfie ??? We are heading out to look tomorrow 5/20. all opinions appreciated !! thanks !

Given that fuel is not going to stop at 4.00 per gal., how about investing in a well sized tent..for some traveling, and then..investigate the rental fees for a traveling-home..such as you are looking at buying? My guess is fuel will hit 5ish..early/late Fall..as the heating oil for Winter crunches..start to reverb. It would be cheaper..and allow several ways of dealing with either camping trips..or emergency shelter..think the earthquake swarms..we have been having in Wash./Ore..the last 3 months. (If not keeping up on the earthq. activitys..google theses letters..PNSN..for research) You may be able to have a time share with another person who already has such an option..and rent their 'bide a wee home'..for a few trips. ina n HB

WOW! Kris, that's a small cabin on wheels. Let us know what it looks like. Larry should be VERY comfortable in that. Our's is by Keystone, but much smaller.

We have a 28' Camper trailer that we are going to sell since we don't use it anymore. It is a 2003 Layton and the plan was to take it to the dog shows, but with the cost of gas it is actually cheaper to get a room, especially since if you need to hook up to electric, most places charge 10-20 dollars a night to park the camper. Most rooms (and we only do pet friendly) run between $55 and $75 a night. Count in insurance, the 2-3 hours prep time both before and after and the extra gas $$, not to mention the original purchase price and you actually come out waaaay ahead by just doing hotels.

Well, to answer most of the above. The "travel" part of the trailer really isnt going to happen. We have lake property and it will be parked, electric water and all. So gas, not much of an issue. thanks CMDRTED, sorry you were bored, I have been researching, 24/7 and I feel like my head is going to explode, any links are truly appreciated. so the short story is, buying a travel trailer is the mostest, worstest, mostest time consuming annoying process ever. Can you tell I might be a little frustrated. Either people expect you to roll up, trailer site unseen, expecting you to have 1000's of 100 dollar, unmarked bills waiting to hand them over willfully to them. I work closely with the banking industry, so I understand being wary. But, come on! So, last night, we go see the Taj Majal, looks great, big roomy, closets and pantries galore!! lights on, AC on yeah !!! then the moment of truth, lets just slide the sliders in, easy enough??? NOT. perfect travel trailer cant even travel.big old no. anyway, we are still looking out. 28-29 feet. max. Hubby wants for winter fishing. 35 feet would have been like hauling a semi around. anyway, I suppose the two weeks before Memorial Day might not be the best time to buy an RV. Anyway, my motto is: "everything happens for a reason", so at the right time, the right opportunity will arise. Thanks everyone. This seems to be ongoing story, so I will update later !! At this rate we should find a Trailer by this time NEXT year. God forbid!! eeek !

kam hubby has the same idea.We been looking at trailers,he says put it on the back of the property, go there for vacation and when gas prices drop , travel the roads........kinda sounds like fun!!We have a guy in the village who advertised $1000 to anyone who lets him park his trailer on thier land for 3 months so he, his wife and child can vacation here.Guess we will see lots of improvising this year for vacations.Neighboprs down the road are thinking of doing the house swapping thing.....well what ever works is good right???Getting away is getting away.Personally, Ill buy the gas and go..the gypsy in me needs to travel....lol

The search is over!! praise the lord, and I mean that! Fate always helps! We went to look at the "perfect trailer", it as at a RV dealer, used 2005, 28'. Well lets just say, we went to buy a "used" Subaru last year and ended up with a "new" Tribeca. Fate, we found Larry months later, and he fits into it perfectly. So, as my current story goes, hubby heads over to "just look" at the 2007 "on sale" model. Well, lets just say, the sale price was great, we got some extras thrown in, "man stuff", and for a few buck more, we are verrrrry happy. Jayco 328RLS. Everything we wanted. So we really didnt break the bank, we got the warranty, the only dirt in it will be ours and Larrys!! And like I said, the travel part of the travel trailer, is pretty much non existent. To the lake, and we are home! We are pretty excited. We pick up this next Saturday!!!

O.K. Kris, our lives are just soooo similar. We did the same thing, went to look at a few used ones and came home with a brand new camper. Too funny. Congratulations, I know you will love it as much as we love ours. By the way, the ramp works great for the dogs to get in and out.

Parallel lives, I swear, we should consult on these type of things more often !!! Lets see, tomorrow I am planning on heading to Costco, any ideas on purchases?? ha ha!!! I might miss something!!! By the way, Larry finally, went "up" the ramp into the truck. Subaru was easy, truck was way to steep. His first run up, on his own, was just this weekend!!! Swimming???? two feet off the bottom, ok, 4 feet paddling, eeeek, back to shore. We will continue trying !!!!
