Willis is getting neutered and a gastroplexy today. Unfortunately he's also getting a drawer test done, too.

Brought him in to the vet last night because of a limp on the back leg this time and xrays showed some inflammation. She didn't think anything was torn, but recommended 3 weeks of crate rest. I figured if we have to rest him for 3 weeks we might as well go ahead and neuter/gastro as he'll have to be crate rested for this, too. Ortho vet had a cancellation so we were able to get him in this morning for surgery. Surgeon said he would do the drawer to get a better feel of what's going on with his knee. Please send good vibes our way. I'm really hoping this is something that will heal with rest.

Good luck! I know the feeling of waiting for drawer test results all too well. I'm sure the surgeries will be fine and I'm hoping the drawer is negative!!

Sending all the best to sweet Willis. Praying for a speedy recovery.

Just looked up what a drawer test was. I really hope everything comes out OK.

He's out of surgery and awake. Negative drawer test, so rest *should* heal this one, too. I just need to get him to stop spraining things! Thanks all for your good wishes.

Willlis, this is Ricky. Wow-zer-WOW!! So youre getting Tutored, man are you going to like it. Being supersmart is the Balm! I get more Hugs and smoochers now than I did before becomming tutored. Let me tell you my story:

Part 1

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!!! Help me!
Guys, this is Ricky. I need someone to HELP ME!!!!!! Everything was OK this morning when I got up cause Dad had to go to his new job. Well....at least I though so.

First, I didn't get my usual gallon of water, which, while important, wasn't the end of the world. Then........NO SNACKY or breaskfast!!!!!!!!!!! What the heck????? I think.

So Dad's leaving for work, and he calls me. Well I thought this was great, cause I thunked that Dad and me were going out to breaskfast or it was take a handsome smoochin machine to work day, or somthin like that.

So after a while, I notice that we pull into the parking place when my favorite Doggy Doctor is (he has these great snackies). I didn't think mucxh of that cause we go there to use the big scale all the time. BTW I'm 108 lbs of slim trim smoochin machine (eat your heart out Nanook!).

So I get weighed, and then Margureet (she's my special smoochin Vet Tech), comes and gets me. She tells Dad that they'll call when I'm ready. So I ask "What-do-you-mean-When-I'm-Ready???? Dad says that I'm going to have my bowling balls CHOPPED OFF!!!!!!!!, and have my hips and elbows xrayed.

What ta HECK! does that mean???? I'm tellin ya, I'm sorta nervous now! I didn't even know, I knew how to bowl! Anyway, I'm askin for some help here. I understand the xray thing Mom & Dad have a T Shirt with a Landseer and an Xray, so I get that, but this Bowling Ball thing, I jus doan get! So I think I need someone to come and rescue me. PLEASE!!!! Now I'm wondering why Dad handed Margureet a pair of Underware that belongs to some guy named Calvin?

Part II -

An Open letter from Ricky;

First off I'm fine, I don't understand what the fuss was about. I was told that I was a very good boy by all the Vet Tech, and I got plenty of hugs from them (they are all girls, so it was a bouns day, as I SMOOCHED THAM ALL!

Hello everyone! I just wanted you all to know how proud I am of my Dad.
He is the best. Now I understand why he took me to the Vet yesterday.
He was having me Tutored! I'm tellin you I'm so smart now, I almost
can't stand it.

When I came home I was sorta tired, and not really hungry. I'm not sure
exactly why, but I was told it had to do with the Tutoring. I also
found myself when I woke up wearing someone named Calvin's underware. I
don't know who this Calvin guy is, but he does have taste, and a fashion
sense.

My sister Oreo also knows how smart I am. I told her I was Tutored, and
then jumped up on her back. She fell to the floor and with all four
legs in the air was laughing so hard, cause I knew she was thinking
about how jealous all the other dogs would be knowing I was Tutored and
now super smart.

So far everything's OK with being a super brain, but I noticed when I
walk, I don't have that big bag between my legs bouncing back and forth
when I walk. It's sorta distracting, but with the "Calvin's" (at least
that's what I call them), I can now store a bag of ice there, so it's
kinda convenient. I heard Mom saying something about frozen peas, personally I like Limas better, but what-da-hey!

Anyway, I got off the subject. I just wanted to let everyone know how
cool my Dad is and Mom too.

Signed;

Ricky

What kind of response did you get from your Vet regarding the Gastropexy? I am worried that my Vet will balk - she already asked about spaying our girl @ 4 months:eek: She now knows we want to wait until she is full grown but I sure wish I could find a Vet that is more experienced with Newfs!

YAY! What a relief that it was a sprain and not worse. Hoping that being parted from his "parts" doesn't cause him any discomfort.

Ooh, he'll love the C&Z snuggles. Thanks, Mary!

Shelly, we are so fortunate to have our choice of wonderful vets! The vet I've seen since I owned my very first dog is very open, knowledgable and progressive. She was aware of the studies and understood why I wanted to wait to neuter, encouraged alternative therapies with my previous dog who lived 14.5 wonderful years under her care, etc. The vet I just switched to is a good friend and extremely knowledgable and open, too. While neither has a ton of Newf experience (Great Danes, Mastiffs and Pyrs are much more common in large breeds around here) each vet understood why I wanted to have the gastropexy done. If you talk to your vet and she won't listen, I hope you can find one who will. A good vet is priceless, IMO.
