Thyroid panels from Jean Dodds

For those of you who have had thyroid panels done by Jean Dodds, what is the normal turn around time to expect results back?

I sent a panel out on Solly due to his repetitive skin issues. It's been 2 weeks and I have not heard back yet. I was just curious if I'm jumping the gun or if this is normal turn around time.

Thanks :)

I think it was about 2 1/2 weeks when Nicholas's was sent, but the results came back to my vet.

Orka's were sent to Michigan and it took freaking many WEEKS! All his test results took forever.

When I sent the results to Dr Jean Dodds via email she responded immediately and was very helpful.

I don't remember exactly how long Thunder's took but it felt quick. Maybe 4 days. Are you sure she got it?
Yes.. I had delivery conformation on the package with going across the states.

I did ask for a copy of the report sent to me for his file and to review it myself. I'll give it a few more days. Patience is not one of my virtues.

Tucker's was sent in May, I know we had the results in less than a week, I want to say it was just a few days. Sorry to hear Solly still has skin issues. :(

Thanks Garden. He just had another round of antibiotic and antifungal. He has been bathed weekly with medicated shampoos.... tried benedryl/ zyrtec.... checking thyroid now.. if that doesn't show something.. we're going to an limited ingredient allergy diet.. and then to the testing if necessary.

The good thing is boy he has REALLY come out of his shell. Other than his skin issues, he is a very happy boy. He and Sadie act like they've know each other all of their lives. :)

It took a week to 2 weeks to get results from Michigan state. I'd then email those to Dodds and she would respond in a few days with results.

Hmmm.. I sent priority .. packed in ice .. and they had it in 2 days. I will be calling the vet on Mon. since many of the east coast folks have a turn around by now..

Dr. Dodds is one amazing human. She shows up repeatedly referenced on both my Berner and Newf lists. (I'm certain other large breeds have her lined us as well) Patience is a Virtue, and one that is required when dealing with folks like her.

Pls allow time, and take a deep breath.

Does one get the samples drawn by their vet then send it off, or does the vet do it all? I know my vet wants to start blood tests on Snuffles starting in January besides heart worm because of age. I once asked her about thyroid and he was tested for the simple one they looked for locally when he had a blood test before his eye surgery about a year ago. He was on the very low end of normal, but since he shows no signs of thyroid problem, she wasn't concerned. She said they use the Michigan University for the complex test.

Is it the $125 Thyroid Profile 5™ PLUS (T4, free T4, T3, free T3, TgAA - PLUS CBC, Differential, Chemistries) test people get? I was thinking getting it done just to know. I know Snuffles seems to be slowing down a bit and the things that got him excited like the word "RIDE" don't so much anymore, but can't say if it is just age as well as minor aches and pains or what.

Leonard, Tucker just had the Thyroid Profile 5 done - the cost for that is $71 by Dr. Dodds, plus whatever your Vet charges. I think we paid $87 total.

For the testing you describe (Profile 7200), Dr Dodds charges $115 plus whatever your Vet charges.

From Dr. Dodds FAQ:
8. How long does it take to get the results?
 Most common tests (Thyroid Profile, CBC and Chemistries, Vaccine Titers and HW)
results are completed in 24 hrs. Other special tests may take longer. Please
remember that Dr. Jean Dodds will look at each report to give her interpretation and
comments, so sometimes it may be up to 48 hrs after we have received the samples.
If the samples arrive on a Friday or Saturday- reports will be ready Sunday night or
Monday afternoon, as Dr. Dodds observes the Jewish Sabbath.
9. Will the result be sent to the vet only? Or can I get a copy?
 You will get a copy if you provide a fax # or e-mail address (write legibly, please) on
the TRF and you can request us to send copies to others, but you need to indicate
so on the TRF.
The good thing is boy he has REALLY come out of his shell. Other than his skin issues, he is a very happy boy. He and Sadie act like they've know each other all of their lives.
That is such wonderful news!!!!

When I did it for Thunder, I gathered all the necessary mailing materials, the vet prepared the sample and I packaged and sent- faster in my mind and I was sure when it went out. most vets will do it however.

Mine would not send it out. They pulled the sample, and it was purely up to me to package it properly and ship.

We did the Thyroid profile 4 plus. Keep in mind if you send it out, straight thyroid does not need to be kept cold. However, if your planning on getting CBC and some of the other tests, you would have to keep it cool until it gets to CA.

If your considering sending some Leonard, you may want to see if you could get a little styrofoam box or such to help insulate the sample and ice. Bags and duck tape were my friend to try to keep the sample cool :)
