ok how many of you guys newfs like to bark at thunder. Luca gets this farocious bark and growl when it thunders. and when it thunders in the middle of the night foget it. nobody sleeps...you would think by the bark and growl the hose was getting invaded by demons
So does anybody else have this problem ?

Angus has always done it. It was especially bad when we lived in SC where it thundered tons in the summer. Now in Maine, we have few times were that is a problem since we hardly ever get a really good thunder storm.

Suggestion....We found with Angus that as long as we had a hand on him, touching him somehow, he did not bark. Try that, maybe it will help.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww... what a good dog Luca is... trying to protect all of you from that horrible monster outside who is making all the noise!!!! ;)
;)

The only Newf that has ever reacted adversely to thunder is Troy... and he only did so in the middle of the night. Russell would go out and sleep on the couch near his crate... and he'd settle right down.

Where is Luca when this happens?

Kodi & Riley bark at thunder. Outside they walk around with their heads up in the air barking at it. In the house they'll run to a closed window and do the same thing. Our house is newf-protected against thunder! :D

Would this be a job for rescue remedy? At least for those middle of the night storms? Through the day I could handle it, but it's hard to go to work when you've had no sleep the night before.

Incidentally Annie - Troy is fine all the time with storms now. I figure that's because I spent all that money on rescue remedy and melatonin!

Maddie also barks at thunder, especially when she's outside.
Lately she's taken to sleeping in one of the bathrooms. She wedges herself between the bathtub and toilet, and will sleep all night!
I read somewhere (not sure if it was here) that some dogs feel an electric current through their body, and by sleeping by the toilet, it "grounds" them, so they don't feel the electricity. Does this sound right to anyone?

Well, since Kira & Yelda have been thundering through the house this morning, and Russell's back at camp and I'm just a little on the "grumpy" side... maybe I could use some since Troy no longer needs it! ;)

I never realized that you are in FL too. You probably get the same daily thunderstorms that we get on the West coast.
Emily doesn't bark but she has a hiding place in our house. And when the storms get really intense or anything else that might scare her she hides under my desk in our bedroom.

Well luca is usually any where he wants to be in the house he has free roam since he's such a good dog. But he usually sleeps down staris at the foot of the stairs by the front door. He barks so farocious at that thunder. He doenst like being out in it either.Last week my wife was walking him and thunder cracked he took off like a shot to the house draggin her behind. Even tonight i went to take him out for a walk and it thundered just a little he tried to drag me back to the house and i a big guy...Guess he is just a big baby....
