I was taking Uschi into PetSmart and a woman wanted to pet her. She said Uschi was a gorgeous Pyrenees. I politely told her Uschi was a Newfoundland. She says she had a Pyr growing up, they're the best dogs, blah blah blah. I said Pyrs and white and Newfs are black, brown, or black and white... thinking I was giving her an easy, straight forward distinction.
She gave me SUCH a look, "MY Pyr was black!"
I said "Pyrs don't come in black."
She says, "Oh yes they do!"
I suggested she look up the standard on the AKC website, as she stomped away.
Should I have just smiled and nodded while she petted Uschi? Which pieces of ignorance or misinformation do you ignore, and which do you correct?
