Sully Surgery

He is not liking the crate at all, it is the largest petsmart had xx large, which gives him plenty of room, he just doesn't understand. The sling with the lead is a tricky thing to do. Just glad to have him home. The E collar did not work at all it came off in the back seat of our Avalanche two blocks from purdue. I hav the procollar on him now, by far much better.
Thank you for all your well wishes, and I will let you know how he gets along.

So many of us have been in your shoes! We understand the constant worry and longing for healing and getting him back to normal. I am glad he is home safe and sound and on the mend. The recovery process from this surgery is grueling...but remember slow and steady. It's like running a marathon!

I for one today know what you are going through exactly......I spend two days in Melbourne with katy, who has just had the same thing done. i was blessed with good people looking after her. Sounds like the same for you. I too had a good cry and restless night after she had the surgery and was in their ICU for the night. And yes it is common here too. Does not make it easier for us :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: I know what your are going through :) Ronnie

PS Mike made our crate..5'x5' and we have no collar on..Katy seems fine at present

Glad to hear Sully is home and doing well. Can you just keep Sully in a smaller area instead of a crate? I think the most important thing is no jumping or running. I didn't crate Samantha at all during her 2 ACL and 1 meniscus surgeries. The only time I had to put a collar on her was at night or when we were gone - just to be sure. She never bothered her stitches at all. Good luck and keep us posted.

The last two nights Sully starts crying around 4:00A.M. he does not like being in a crate at all. Other than that he is doing fine. The only time I am to take him out is to do his duty. I have to keep ice on the leg 3 times a day for 3 days, then a warm rag in a zip lock bag for 3 days. I have to move his joints in that leg, which I do when I do the ice.
I am not sure how many screws he has in his leg compared to Katy, he may have less since we are suppose to use a sling.
I have let him lay on the living room floor as long as he stays still, but when he wants to follow someone around it is crate time again.
My daughter and I are going to see my father (he is turning 90) in Florida Thursday till Monday. My husband, and my 11 year old grandson will be in charge of him for those days. I hated to do this before I left, but I did not want to let it go any longer either, and do more damage. I am going to worry the whole time I am gone!!
How is Katy doing? I hope she is doing well!!

Poor Sully..it's so hard when they don't understand what's going on. Hopefully, he will get used to the crate. How long do they recommend that he stay in it??

They said 6 to 8 weeks. As long as he lays still we are letting him lay beside us in the living room to give him a little time out.

Glaad to hear the TPLOlers are progressing well.

btw, with my only (hopefully) TPLO experience I used an expen instead of a crate because Emma didn't have to bend to get into the crate and she had more room to stretch out.
