Hello Everyone ...

The wife is going out with her friends this evening (dinner and sex and the city movie I think) and I didn't want to just sit at home with Kaylee. Wanted to get out and do something with her.

Anyone have any good ideas on what a Dad and Pup can do that will be fun and continue to help socialize?

Thanks everyone !!!

We like to take the boys to PetSmart or to the local ice-cream place for treats. Both places get them plenty of attention! (And the local ice-cream place provides puppy sundaes, lol!)

What did you two end up doing? If I had seen the thread in time I would have suggested a nice walk in a public place that should bring plenty of opportunities to meet new people, other dogs, kids etc...

well ... we were going to go to the outside mall, however, it would have been too busy that I didn't want kaylee to get run over ... so we will keep that as our sunday afternoon activity.

sooooo .... Kaylee and I went to Petco to pick up scented poopie bags, and LOTS of people gave her love there. Spent a good 30-45 minutes there, then started home. Was driving by our local park and saw several soft ball games, lots of people watching, and several dogs. Thought this was a perfect chance to socialize some more. Spent a good 45 min to an hour there, met several dogs, found out kaylee is very very scared of skateboarders ... She would cowl behind me and jet the other way when she saw the boys with skateboards. Overall, it was a great experience for her.

Then headed to my friends house where she got some more love for another 30 minutes, then headed home. By this time it was about 9:30pm. She literally walked in the door and dropped to the floor she was sooooo tired ...

It was a great experience, and thanks for all the suggestions.

We are now in the process of trying to find a plastic pool for her to play in. Target and ToysR'us doesn't have any. Anyone else have any suggestions on where we might be able to get one?

Thanks!

Sounds like a very fun night with Daddy :)

Katie used to be so afraid of anything with wheels (except cars...they were fine)...strollers, bicycles, skateboards all freaked her out. I was afraid she was never going to get over these fears, but one day a very friendly Dad was out strolling his baby around. I asked him if he would mind helping me to train my dog for five minutes. I went up to the stroller while it wasn't moving and put treats on the ground near it. Then I gave Katie the "check it" command. She slowly came over to grab the goodies. As she was munching with one eye steadily fixed on the terrifying stroller, she began to realize that it wasn't scary. She relaxed and has never been afraid of one since. Of course we had to go through the same routine with a bicycle, shopping cart and even a person using a cane.

Are there any fleet farms in your area , or a kids toy store
Fleet Farms ?!?!?! Not here in Los Angeles ... Never heard of one? And we did stop by Toys R Us but they only had the blow up ones !!!!

Thanks for the suggestion mrs. big dogs ...

That we did :)

Glad to know Kaylee is not the only one scared of Skateboards !!! She is not afraid of cars in the least or bikes really. Haven't tested strollers or rollerbladers yet ... gotta find some.

Great suggestion on how to get her to learn to like these things... Hopefully the treat works !!! :) Will give it a go next time we see a skateboarder ... Might have to bribe the skater though since all the ones around here are little punks ...
