Struvite Crystals

So does anyone have any experience with them? I am supposed to feed Hills S/D and it only comes in canned form. That is a lot of cans a day. Any info and help would be appreciated. She does not have the stones yet still just the crystals.

Years ago, Science Diet had a pamphlet with recipes for making each of their foods. Ask the vet if this still exists. It might be cheaper for you to make in quantity and freeze than buying the cans.

If not, just ask the vet for some alternatives. There are other foods that are better than Science Diet that might work.

Rory had a few struvite crystals in her urine when she had her last UTI. The vet said sometimes it is a sign of bladder stones. He said the only way to tell for sure would be to do a sonogram of the bladder. No dietary changes were suggested.

Our Mary had struvite crystals showing up in her urine when she was six months old or so. Our primary vet, who likes to treat everything aggressively, was all for exploratory surgery, but we went for second and third opinions, had a sonogram done, and ended up FedExing a bottle of puppy pee halfway across the country to a specialist in Pennsylvania.

The consensus was "wait and see," and almost two years later with no further problems, we're very glad we did.
