Small digital camers

I will be traveling in a couple of weeks, and was thinking about getting a new small digital point and shoot to take rather than my Canon DSLR since I am planning to only have carry on luggage. I am looking for suggestions about what to get. I really want to have a viewfinder as I have always shot with an slr and the "hold the camera at arms length to frame the shot" is just NOT me.

Any suggestions?

I use my little Canon Cool pix when I travel/hike..........It is quite good and has had some falls and knocks, whilst horse-riding, and survived to keep taking pictures. It is what I had before my Nikon. I still like it and it now just lives in the car. Quite tough, Ronnie

I have a Canon Powershot (not the Elph). That's what I take when I can't take the DSLR. That's what I used for the pics I posted in the Cole Brag thread.

I see that Rockwell likes the Nikon DSLR's and Canon pocket cameras. Interesting.

I like my Canon DSLR and my Canon pocket camera. LOL

Panasonic Lumix LX for me. It's the best little camera I've owned, and I've owned a few. I have the LX1. There's an LX3 now. Pricey, but good.

If you can get to today's Wall STreet Journal interesting article on new small digitals with some interesting features- one project immediately on surfaces like walls- up to 42" in size.
