Slippery floor situations

What have you done to get your dog to get used to slippery floors?
When we go into schools and rest homes the post office. I am having a time trying to get my girl to feel confident about walking across them. What she will do is get through the door and see the shine and always want to walk against the wall if we get that far...I don't want to drag her and have a bigger problem to deal with.
We have been working with her and using rugs as islands or bases to get to across a given slippery area.
She is two and her feet are always trimmed, she did these type of floors as a puppy and now she seems to have a problem with them.
Thank you,
Tracy

I second what Chairty said.....I am a huge fan of paw wax. Use it regularly on slick surfaces to help her get traction. Once she learns she is not going to slip she will regain her confidence.
If she has slipped at some time she may be afraid now. When my Hannah was a puppy she would pancake herself on the floor at PetsMart. At first I thought she was afraid of the shiny surface. Once I started using the paw wax she started walking on the floor....

I have tried the paw wax but Bär still seems to slide. Maybe a different brand is better.

Shaw's and Musher's are both really good. You can buy them at the usual online places: dog.com, drsfostersmith, jeffers, petedge, etc. I am not sure what Petco carries--we don't have one here.
I buy the 8-in-1 brand at PetsMart. It comes in a round tin like shoe polish and is in the supplement/grooming section with the ear cleaner and such.
It's original use is for protecting the pads and healing dry/cracked pads..It works well for that too.

Maggie suddenly became afraid of shiny floors, and would back out of the Petsmart. She'd get in the doors on the rug, see the shine, and back up. We would have to reassure her before she would move forward, and then she'd velcro to our legs (and having Lucy just walk right past her and keep going kind of inspired her to follow, too). Since that day, she balks at every shiny floor...the vets, other stores...even the shine on the earthen tile outside the Bruster's Ice Cream stand scares her. I'll have to try the paw wax to see if it helps.

I'm going to try the paw wax too when Murphy can have the run of the main floor. I have runners down but he heads for the laminate.

I think they are smart to be afraid of shiny floors. After all they could easily sustain a serious injury by slipping on them. Non slip rugs or paw wax will help to keep them safe.
