hi

I understand that there is a sling/brace (for lack of a better word) that one can use to help support a dog that has just had crutiate surgery - to help support the dogs weight - does anyone know of this item and if yes, where I could find one - thanks - Jayne

There are many threads here devoted to just this subject. Depending on your Newf's mobility or lack of should dictate your needs as you progress through his or her issues. For me, what served us for a long time was a simple inexpensive denim harness that was intended to carry logs. I got it from Home Hardware .. not sure if they still sell them. After things got more complex I was lucky enough to have a Help em up Harness given to me.. from an angel.....

But there are many solutions in between. I encourage you to do searches and you will have lots of great suggestions and support

Help em Up Harness is good if you are trying to literally help the dog get up. If you are looking to help support the knee that had surgery or to support the opposite leg from weight loading then look at the stifle brace from orthopets.com. We have both, though my girl has not needed surgery on her partial cruciate tear from December, they have helped tremendously.

OSU gave us a sling for Elvis, but he didn't come until 4 days post-op and was already walking fine without it. We did use it to get him out of the car, but that's the only time.

The help Em up works to help them get up AND move around (obviously someone has to walk with the dog). It is not just to get them up. Been using mine for over a year now.

We just had surgery 2 weeks ago and are using the help em up harness currently. We have a boy and getting the back part of the harness to fit around his man bits so he doesn't potty on the harness is a challenge. I find myself leaving the back half off more and more when we go for potty breaks. Even so, the front half alone is helpful for our needs.

Hey Paige...you know they do have 2 different rear sizes for boys...maybe call them, I'm sure they'd switch for you....wonderful peeps :) (if you got it from CO)

When Sully had his surgery, Purdue U gave us a sling that just slipped around his belly, and had handles on the top, there was no fastening or anything, it was quick and easy to use. Being a male he did wee on it, so I washed it quite a bit.
