We have a 12 year old Golden that is living in Alabama. He is getting itchy. (no fleas). Anyone recommend a good shampoo for old man skin.

we use groomers evening primrose shampoo though I'm not sure if groomers produscts are available where you are. Its great for a lot of dry skin conditions as well, my brothers jrt suffers terribly until we gave him some of this and its really helped him

Perhaps adding some wild salmon oil to his diet will help? Do you have the heat on yet? Perhaps it's getting a little dried out?

You could try Mane N Tail ProTect. You can usually find it in Farm Stores OR it's available from Amazon. It's antimicrobial and anti fungal, in case he has something going on. Just use as directed (you have to dilute). Then rinse rinse rinse rinse and rinse again. Only use conditioner on his feathers and maybe chest. And then rinse a LOT again.

Hope he's feeling better soon.

No heat in the house - really - they are in Alabama. A friend of mine uses shampoos with Oatmeal for her old female newf.

I hope the house has heat because no matter where in AL it will be needed several times through the winter. I am in NW FL (commonly known as lower AL). There are quite a few days in the 30s and lower. Christmas was year was 9 degrees.

This seems to help our dogs sometimes if they are itchy:

Turner is always very itchy during the summer and fall due to allergies, but honestly, this year (knock on wood) he has been GREAT! I think it is the panogenic shampoo I've been using on him. ??? Who knows, but that is the only difference that I can think of. Normally he loses almost all his tail hair and has a LOT of hot spots. This year, nothing.
