Bought this from Amazon.ca, even though it shipped from the US. Go figure. It's both a history of Newf war hero,Gander and of the 2 Canadian brigades that were sent to Hong Kong in 1941, where sadly Gander gave his life saving his wounded company friends from a Japanese grenade. It's also a history of the Dicken Medal and names all the other animals of war, horses, pigeons and a cat, who helped their humans.
PS and a surprise, when I opened chapter one who do I see but my Maneen, as a representative of the Newfoundland dog.
Second surprise: the original Winnie the Pooh was a Canadian black bear cub who was mascot of a Canadian infantry brigade. When the brigade went to the battlefields, Winnie (short for Winnipeg) went to the London Zoo and had a young boy fall in love with him. The boy's name was Christopher Robin Milne.
