So we just had Sadie at the vet Tuesday morning. She had been vomiting Monday night. Also when we weighed her on the 4th of may she was down a few pounds since her check up in feb. (already had a call into the vet for that). So Tuesday we did X-rays which showed no obstruction, and did a full blood work which showed I think the vet said white cell count was elevated which either meant either giardia or whip worm. So we sent her stool out and came back positive for whip worm. I have no idea where or when she got it because her stool sample was clear in feb. so we were told to put her on Pepcid, and feed her a bland diet for a few days. And treating the worms with panacur. So tonight she ate her dinner of rice and chicken and she threw up again. She has been fine except tonight. Could this be the panacur? I feel like such a horrible mom I didn't catch this Sooner but her stool and everything was good in feb. she is acting her normal sassy self still.

After a dog ingests whipworm eggs I think it takes about three months for the eggs to hatch and complete the life cycle. So she could have indeed been clear in Feb.
The eggs can also live for a long time in soil. So it could have been as simple as her walking on soil contaminated with eggs, picking them up on her paws or leg fur and then licking her feet.
Just be sure to pick up all her poops and dispose of them. The eggs pass out through the stool and she (or other dogs) can pick them up all over again by coming in contact with it.
She could be a little irritated in her intestines from the worms or the treatment.

I've never known Panacur to upset the stomach... Many monthly wormers don't hit whips. Trifexis is one that does.

I had a pyr once that came in with whips. Whips are hard to detect in stool samples if light infestation. We had to treat more than once to get rid of whips then put all dogs on Interceptor to keep them gone. Hard to get rid of once have in soil. Interceptor no longer available so would have to use something like Trifexis or Sentinel.

I'd say you were an excellent owner if you had the stool checked in Feb. and again in May. I read stools for a living and my dogs don't get checked that often. I would say whip eggs are easy to find even if rare. I do vaguely remember the vets telling me that the rounds and hooks got panacur, but the whips were treated with a different med.

Sadie is better today. Has kept food down all weekend.. The vet suggested checking her stool again this time around. We are going to start adding some of her dry food back in her diet in the next few days. Hopefully the panacur works she gets her next round of it in 3 weeks. I feel like I should put her in a bubble!
