Glad to hear she is doing much better! Here's to smooth sailing through the rest. Just wondering what do they do for dogs that have been bitten by a poisonous snake?
Fortunately, the snake was apparently very, VERY small, almost newborn. Apparently, it was a copperhead. The other indigenous poisonous snake in the are where we were visiting was the timber rattler.
Apparently, a healthy Newf sized dog can "get over" a small copperhead bite, provided not much venom is injected. Swelling like Calza got is often the major symptom. A rattler is apparently a different story since the venom is different. A timber rattler bite like Calza got would have probably caused her have one foot less right now. I would say she is a very very lucky girl!
Ironically, I was at a "yappy hour" at a dog friendly business a few days earlier. The guest speaker was an emergency vet who talked about SNAKE BITES and the venomous snakes found in this particular part of Western North Carolina
