Prayers for Calza

The GOOD news is that Calza apparently doesn't have cancer! The nipple is probably going to have to be removed. The dark stools are being monitored and she has been taken off ALL medication except for Pepcid for the time being. Pending the results of the tests, the vet thinks the digestive problems are the result of medication (a big shout out to R Taft!)

The SCARY part is the swollen foot. Now that the swelling has subsided, it appears that Calza was bitten on the foot by a spider or small poisonous SNAKE! Wowser!

Oh my goodness! What AMAZING news (except for the nipple)!! I'm so glad her foot is okay but wow, a snake?!? I'm sorry these past few days were so scary.

Wonderful news!!! Loosing a nipple when you have that many should be a cinch! (lol) Sounds like you have some solid answers that can be helped, still sending well wishes and prayers.

Sounds encouraging. Hopefully everything will heal quick!!!! The father of my friends Basset Tank, was thought to be bloating a year or two back. If I understood right, turned out he had a hole in his stomach they thought was from daily Rimadyl usage causing his abdomen to fill with air.

She is back to her old self; the bloody stool has stopped and she brought a box turtle back to the car on our walk the other day. The latter is typical, healthy Calza.

Thanks for asking.

Glad to hear she is doing much better! Here's to smooth sailing through the rest. Just wondering what do they do for dogs that have been bitten by a poisonous snake?

Fortunately, the snake was apparently very, VERY small, almost newborn. Apparently, it was a copperhead. The other indigenous poisonous snake in the are where we were visiting was the timber rattler.

Apparently, a healthy Newf sized dog can "get over" a small copperhead bite, provided not much venom is injected. Swelling like Calza got is often the major symptom. A rattler is apparently a different story since the venom is different. A timber rattler bite like Calza got would have probably caused her have one foot less right now. I would say she is a very very lucky girl!

Ironically, I was at a "yappy hour" at a dog friendly business a few days earlier. The guest speaker was an emergency vet who talked about SNAKE BITES and the venomous snakes found in this particular part of Western North Carolina
