Prayers for Adam

Adam cannot take Previcox for his aching joints because they give him diarrhea. Since last fall he has been taking Metacam with no problems. It is really expensive so I talked to me vet about trying the pill form Meloxicam. Well he has taken 3 of those pills and he is having severe diarrhea. So now I am waiting for it to clear his system then we are going back to the Metacam. I was trying to save some money. The Metacam is $100+ per month compared to the Meloxicam which is $4 a month. Please pray that he feels better soon. And for me as I am cleaning him up many times per day as well as the messes. My poor boy. Yes he is worth $100+ per month.

Oh poor Adam and poor you! And yes, he is worth every penny! But, it is nice to be able to pay $4. Jake is on that also and hasn't had any issues.

Sorry to read of the problems. Don't know if this would help or not, but you may ask the Vet, but can you use Metronidazole with the Meloxicam?
I asked already. Since this is not a bacterial problem the metronidazole will not help. Vet said I could try some Imodium. Does not seem to be working. I'll probably just have to wait it out. This evening and in the morning he is getting no meds at all. Not even his amoxicillin.

I was thinking when we got in that NSAID drug test that gave Snuffles horrible diarrhea, that was something the vet suggested to keep him in it, but for other reasons I decided to stop. Even after getting out of the drug study, things never quite cleared up, so had to give him a few days worth of metronidazole to get things back to normal.

He is not any better. I am taking a stool sample in to the vet about noon. If they don't find anything in the stool sample he has an appointment at 4:45 this evening. If they find something then I'll cancel the appointment. They asked me what tests for the stool sample. I told them all of them.

Jeannie, will your vet price match the Metacam for you? When Chance was on it I had been getting it at the vet and it was I think $100 a bottle at that time. I went online and found it at a reliable place (entirelypets.com) for $55.00. I printed it out and brought it to him to ask for a script. He said he would rather price match so it worked out well for us both.

There is a generic of the liquid out now also, I think it's called Meloxidyl. Hope your boy starts feeling better.

Well, Adam has not pooped since I have been trying to get a sample. As soon as I get a sample I'll take it in then we will go from there.

I fasted Adam for 24 hours then started him back on a bland diet. He has not had any diarrhea since this morning. In fact he has not pooped at all since morning. I hope things are getting back to normal. We will see what tomorrow brings.

I went to my vet to get a bottle of Metacam. I get the 180 ML bottle. My vet usually charges me $165 for the bottle but she matched a price I found on line for $130.

Hopefully he is on the mend, you might want to give him some pure pumpkin daily for a while. That tends to help firm things up!

Nothing has changed. He pooped overnight and it was a mess this morning. It is basically liquid. He is not digesting his food because there was rice in it. I got as good as sample as I could. It was like trying to pick up thick pee. Angela, I am afraid to give him pumpkin. He has always had a very sensitive stomach. Even if I give him a different kind of biscuit it throws his system out of wack.

Poor Adam. I hope you can get him sorted out very soon. I'd ask about the metronidazole again. Or a probiotic.

Maggie gets diarrhea from stress (like if we leave her with a dog sitter, etc). We give her 1-2 doses of metronidazole and it clears right up.

UPDATE: Sorry I didn't have time to update. I took in a stool sample. All tests came back negative including giardia. Adam is now taking 4 metronidazole and 2 tablets of a special probotic. I cannot remember the name. Usually the metronidazole clears him right up but didn't when I put him on it earlier this week. If he is not better by this Saturday I'll be taking him in to the vet. He is still on a bland diet and will be until his stool is better. I'll keep everyone posted.
