OT: update/help needed

Well, Mike has been gone about a month now. It's hard to believe. I miss him very much, but I am adjusting.

If any of you have wondered about me, I have had my own navy orders to deal with. I just got back. Flower was VERY happy to see me. I am still recovering from the lack of sleep and intense days of navy training, and not really wanting to go back to the real job tomorrow.

I just wanted to let everyong know that Mike is still gone, life still crazy. I get asked a lot what can people do to help. So I am making a suggestion here.

1) Contact your local reserve center and see if there is anything they need (VFWs, etc, also are doing a lot to help). Navy facilities should have an ombudsman that can point you in the right direction, and every state now has a central contact point for the national guard that is overseeing the distribution of such things...

One of the things that is really needed (aside from sunscreen, etc) is calling cards so the soldiers and sailors can call their loved ones.

If anyone wants a complete list or help with a contact, email me privately and I'll hook you up (this is a great way for people to get involved).

Please keep the members of our armed services in your thoughts and prayers. We just started planning a holiday party for the families where parents are deployed. It's really depressing (did I say I miss Mike?) I'm really excited cause I think I can see him this weekend.

Well, let me know if you want to help....

How exciting that you will get to see Mike this weekend! You are very dedicated to have been thru Navy training recently. I will check with with local VFW to see what they recommend. I'm sure Flower was glad to see you and it is good to hear from you too!

Having been a navy wife during Gulf I, I must remind you that there are also those out there deployed that cannot get letters, email, or packages from loved ones, or anyone else for that matter. There are sailors deployed whose families have NO idea where they are. These are the men stationed on submarines throughout the world. Someone in the world knows where they are, but rest assured it is not the spouses or other family members.

Please don't forget them either......

hard to forget. my husband was a submariner during desert storm. he had since gone reserve, so he needed to much training to return to a sub.

we'll do what we can and work with their ombudsman.

Laura,

That's great that you get to see your husband! Where is he stationed? My husband is in the Marine Corps and has been gone since Feb. 3. Since he is in Iraq we can't see him, but we do get emails sometimes...which are great!! It is so much better this time because of the internet!

Best of luck to you!!

Sallie,
I didn't realize your husband was over in Irac. I will also keep him in my prayers. Hopefully, the war will be over soon.

Sallie,

Next time you email your husband, tell him that he's in our prayers. Please know that you and your family are in our prayers as well.

Mike is stationed at Indian Head, Maryland. It was good to see him. It was a really long drive alone (Flower doesn't count, she slept the whole way). I drove out Friday (and got stick in the DC rush hour) and back Sunday. Fri took 8.5 hours, Sunday took 7.5.

Flower was rally happy to see her Daddy, and he was happy to see her. I threatened to leave her with him, but he can't have her on base. Besides which, it is so quiet and lonely here, that I wouldn't have really wanted to leave her.

Well, it's so early and it's back to the grind now.....off to work!
