Orijen 6 fish..she still hates it

Ok...so I got another bag of 6 fish...tried it once with Bindi when she was a pup and she hated it...so, I have been feeding her "Chicken Soup for the dog lovers soul".(not my first choice, but she loves it)
But Now that my girl is 17 months, I thought it might be time to see if she will like the Orijen 6 fish and not be so picky.
She hates it......Waaaaa...I am so frustrated because I am going to stick to my guns and only feed her this wonderful healthy food. We are at a standstill..She is refusing to eat it and I am her mommy and only want the best food for her..so I am putting her bowl down and she smells it and walks away and I leave it there for about an hour and try it again at a later time...she still refuses to eat it.
I want her to live a long healthy life with me, she is active and swims every day, but I don't know what to do.
I tried it dry, tried mixing it with warm water, tried mixing it with sockeyed salmon and she still turns her nose at it.:grrr:
Any suggestions?

Maybe she doesn't like fish? Uh the horror for a Newf! Kind of like my "Hangashore Newf" who hates to swim. Perhaps you could try the Orijen regular adult food or their new beef food! Worth a try.

LOL!! Yes the horror...hehe...she does love sockeyed salmon and sardines so I am very confused why this water loving Newf is not liking the 6 fish. If this keeps up, I shall try the other Orijen foods, but I really wanted to feed her the 6 fish..hummmm

Suggest you try Orijen Puppy; it seems to be the tastiest for Newfs and has two types of fish in it. Once she is eating it regularly, you can try from time to time the 6-Fish but Orijen Puppy and Orijen Large Puppy can be fed for all life stages just like all other Orijen feeds.

I haven't been recommending the Orijen Adult because it had significanlty less omega-3 than the other formulations but the recent changes in the Orijen formula seem to have upped the omega-3 in all the formulas including the Adult. Sandra has found that she has to rotate Neptune to Adult to keep him eating regularly.

If I were you I wouldn't be stuck on feeding Orijen. There are a lot of good dog foods out there so I would find one that your dog likes and go with that.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone:)
I am going to try the Orijen Puppy and see if she likes that better.
If not, I will be moving on to try another food that she will enjoy eating.
I just trust Orijen and feel so confident with the company and ingredients.
My other dogs LOVE the 6 fish, but Bindi...hummm...my princess Bindi...picky picky picky..

We were given 18 sample bags of Orijen adult and while we can't give it to Marcus who seems to have a chicken allergy... and can only tolerate the 6 fish...Max...our fussy eater, loves it. Free dog food...yeahhhhh!

Oh no! I've never heard of a Newf (or any dog for that matter) turning their nose up to Orijen! I have to keep ours locked in a closet (they are even in bins) because my boys will try to rip through the bag to get to it! My Gabe is the pickiest eater I've ever met and he scarfs it down like no tomorrow! However, he eats the Adult...not the 6 fish. I've ordered the 6 fish for our next bag!

I know it's hard...but trust me...if they get hungry enough they will eat. Dogs don't starve themselves.

Also, I agree. If it doesn't agree with her or she doesn't like it...there are plenty of other very healthy foods out there. A lot of us feed Orijen but it's not the only way to health for your Newf!

Maybe try putting an egg in it, or a drizzle of olive oil... Something to add a smell / flavor that may entice.

Just be aware that the "red" foods...or "hot" foods in Chinese Medicine...can cause some dogs to react with ear infections, etc.

I have a couple of dogs who HATE fish based food ... and don't like fish oil either. They do love "real" or canned fish tho.

I'd just switch foods. If she likes Chicken Soup and does well on it...use that. It's not a bad food at all. Maybe you can try some Wild Salmon Oil and see if she'll eat that. Or add some canned salmon, or some Jack Mackerel daily...if she'll eat that.

If your dog's refusing it, be careful. She could be allergic to something in it. Before we figured out Tiika was allergic to chicken, she started refusing chicken and then eggs. She hasn't had chicken for a year now. I got some duck eggs for her but she just takes one look and won't even try it. She probably thinks it's a chicken egg. I think dogs are like kids, they know when something isn't good for them. According to what Peter said the puppy food has only two kinds of fish so she might be okay. There's someone here on Newf Net who said their dog couldn't eat the 6 fish because the dog was allergic to shellfish so I assume there is some of that in it.
