Oozy raised lump

Hi everyone, and Happy New Year!! :)

I noticed Sully licking his left foot quite a bit lately. At first I'd grab his foot and kept looking UNDER it - toes nails pads, between pads, thinking he hurt somewhere down there from being out in the snow and cold alot lately, always chewing off snow chunks. I didn't see anything the first day or two. About the third day i noticed him licking his paw again I inspected everywhere and finally noticed that its the TOP of his paw, and there was an oozey/pussy circle when I pushed his fur back. At first I thought okay hot spot, or just a cut or scrape irritated from his licking, but then I cut the fur away and touched it to clean it out and put polysporin on it, and its RAISED. It's a lump. It's about the size of a nickel, hard and firm, flat across the top. Looks sort of pink/red coloured but hard to tell because of the oozing. It appears to be coming from above the skin, not under. He doesn't seem to care at all when I press on it. He just turned 4 in November.

Any thoughts on what this could be?? Google searches turn up Mast Cell or histiocytoma, but I am not sure if it is either as it is oozey, and doesnt seem to be a tumor UNDER the skin. However I don't have any experience with either so what do I know! I'm thinking vet visit just to clear everything to be sure, but wondering if anyone has experience/expertise on what they think it could be?

Here are pics of it, hard to tell in the pictures but it is definitely a hard raised bump.

Go and have it checked out at the vet as it could be anything, it needs some treatment. Let us know.

Yeah, time for the vet to check. Probably nothing, but it will be worth it to find out. Anytime you find lumps on extremities, I think it's worth the vet check.

I also say go to the vet. However, recently Sam had a raised lump on his shoulder. It was oozey, but not cottage cheesey. It was more of a blood and clear fluid mixture. It had been there for a while, and the vet felt as though it was a wart. Finally, when it did become oozey, it did finally drain and went down by itself. Let's hope it is something as simple a that.

Keep us posted, please!

That sounds pretty similar, looking at the bump closely today, it seems to have flattened out a bit. The top of it is very flat, and it seems lower, not as high a bump now. Was more circular before, now its totally flat. I'm wondering if it's shrinking as it is draining some stuff out? He has been wearing a sock/and or cone so it isn't really oozing anymore but just drying up. I will see how it is tomorrow, but I did book an appointment for tomorrow night at the Vet.

Love the new avatar :) Lumps and bumps scare me, that one looks angry....I say vet too!
Thank you! :) I should post some wedding pics with the dogs in the photo section. Haven't gotten to that yet!

Could be an abscess if its pussy - hopefully it was just a hot spot or something simple that got worse with his messing with it. Regardless, he may need it drained and some antibiotics.

Hoping its nothing major!

Vet check, just to be sure. Puss would indicate bacteria that is dying off, so maybe just a round of antibiotics, but better safe and have it checked.

So took Sully in last night. Vet said it was either Mast Cell Tumor or Histiocytoma.. He took a needle to get some cells and blood so he could diagnose under the microscope. LUCKILY it is not mast cell :) He said nothing looked abnormal or concerning in the swab and that it is just Histiocytoma. He said to leave it as is for now, as it is best to let the body attack it to get rid of it and take care of it. To minimize his licking of it which is okay as we a cone and socks for him. We just need to keep an eye on it as he said it is not uncommon to double in size and become a nuisance that it would need to be removed. So fingers crossed it shrinks down and goes away soon!

I was thinking about you guys yesterday, glad to hear the update, hopefully his body will do it's job and get rid of it, cause it looks like a fight going on there. What did you end up doing with the favors? Would love to see some pictures from the wedding :)

Yes I will try to put some up this week :) We did the caramel apples but for the tag I ended up just doing normal rectangle tags! I ran out of time being busy with everything else that it was easier to just do that, the company that did the apples just made and attached them for me. The apples were however wrapped in paw print cellophane :) we made a donation to our local newf rescue as planned
