Unbelievable that they have not found a home for Koda. He is such a sweet, loving boy who just wants a family!!!

I know, its starting to break my heart. I love him so much, the day he leaves is not going to be a happy one for me, my husband on the other hand will be jumping for joy, punk!

Hopefully the right family will come around soon.

TX, but in the event the right family comes along we are willing to drive him just about anywhere. He can't fly, due to crate issues.

my daughter's boyfriend, who is richer than god, has a newf rescue and a gsd rescue (a very difficult dog), he might be interested. I'll get back to you in a few days, next week actually. I would love to take him myself...I love leos...but my family would have me committed, and the city would have me arrested! and..I wonder if the deal with leo rescue is that they are not just as organized, or have as much networking...as newf rescues.

OMG I didn't know there was a Leo on here. I'm on dog overload now, but if only I had space I'd come get him. DH really wants a Leo. I can't believe he's still around either.

My sister was considering a Leonberger ... but we are in Canada, and that is a crazy far drive from Texas ... How is he with other dogs/cats? Is he okay with small kids? Other than crate issues (and what is the issue exactly) does he have any more major behaviour issues?

Jen, that might not be as crazy as you may think....I live in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. I can get down to lower Michigan in about 6 hours. I also have family in around the Kenora area....it is possible that we might be able to work something out to get him up north and half way to Calgary. So, if your family did decide that this was a go, you may be surprised how the power of Newf Net could make this happen :)

I google mapped and it looks like a 2 day drive (not knowing where in texas the start point actually is, I just chose a city in the middle of the state). I am in Medicine Hat, which is fairly close to the US border, so I could do the last few hours of the drive ... but it would leave the rest. Once I have more info on the dog, and its personality and such I will talk to my sister. She is moving here next fall to live with us, so having him get along with dogs, cats and small kids is paramount.

Sorry for the delay.... Here is some info on Koda.

He will be 4 in December. He gets along with our Newf wonderfully and he goes to daycare and gets along with all the dogs there as well.

He does okay with kids, He loves my 4 yr old niece. But has shown fear of some other children. He hasn't been around kids too much, I think he is scared of them. But like I said, my twin 4yr old nieces are over quite a bit and he does great with them.

Crates are a no go, he busts out of them. He has some separation anxiety issues, but has improved greatly since being with us. I'm sure he will relapse some when he goes to his new home, but he will learn quickly.

He is such a sweet boy, I love him so much, if it weren't for my stupid husband we would keep him. He is such a lover, a true velcro dog.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions.

Any idea how he functions with cats/small animals? We have a cat, as does my sister, so that would be an issue.
My and Troy are trying to have a baby ... so getting along with kids is a big concern. My sister is moving here to do an EMT/paramedic program, so I will check with her to see if she is still looking at getting a dog, or if she has decided to wait until she is done school.

He does great with small dogs. I'm pretty sure his previous owners had cats, so i'm assuming he is fine with them.

He is very laid back, so I would think he would be okay in a home with children.

I have met Koda on a few occasions and he has gotten along with all the dogs -- off leash and all. He is such a sweetheart. He just wants so badly to be loved. You can see it in his eyes. I think any issues he has are from not feeling stability and consistency in his home. Kat has done so well with him and has taken him to training and socialization. He's just a little bull-headed when it comes to the crate!
