Okay I know different lines different height time frame.
Yet on the average what are ruffly the height age times for newfs.
For ex. spurt height at three months seven and then not till one year etc.
When did your newf grow to the height he is and then fill out.
Did any of you think your dog was going to be tall or short and then changed wham and did the opposite and surprise you, or not.

I'm curious about this, too! Burgess is 7 months old and 22 inches at the shoulder... which seems awfully short to me. He is a very small Newf, though, so perhaps it's normal for him. I am curious how much bigger he's going to get - if he's going to catch up to where he should be size-wise! He was the perfect size when we got him (16 lbs. at 8 weeks) but has just slooooowed down ever since then. At 7 months he is 60 lbs.

Cole is 29.5" at the shoulder at 16 mos old. He just went through another growth spurt of about 1/2".

He weighs 135 as of last week.

I believe that at 6 mos he was around 25" at the shoulder, or maybe 24". He weighed 73 lbs.

By 8 mos he was around 27" at the shoulder, and weighed 97 lbs.

At 12 mos he was about 28.5" at the shoulder, and weighed 120 lbs.

Things have slowed down since he hit a year old. He's still growing, but SLOWLY...thank heaven!

He's still got growing to do....but I doubt he'll get a lot taller. It's possible he'll grow another 1/2-1" over time, however, I won't be surprised if he stays where he is.

He's lanky and long now. He has a LOT of filling out to do. I'd expect him to weigh in at around 150-160 at full maturity.

The girls reached their full heights (all at 27") at about a year old. The "maturity" (full girth) came around 3 yrs of age for Molly, and 4 yrs of age for Mira.

My Hannah started out small and stayed that way. She was over four months old before she hit 25 lb. She is 23 1/2 inches tall....her head comes to just above my knee joint. Her last trip to the vet she weighed 80 lbs. on the dot.

At Rafe's 6 mos checkup he weighed 93 pounds and was 27 inches at shoulder. He went up in year one to 115 pounds and 28 inches and stayed pretty much like that except his chest dropped and he filled out in head, chest, etc... Now he is 3 years and suddenly had a growth spurt! He is an inch taller and although I havent weighed him in a few months, I suspect he has gained. He is always VERY lean so far.

Murphy won't stand still long enough to get an accurate measurement but he is about 33-34 inches at the shoulder. His brother Ozzy is also tall and they come from a tall line. The boys will be 4 in December and I'm pretty sure Murphy has stopped growing. :shocker: :tequila:

I wish my boy was smaller cause I worry about the extra strain on his frame and bones. Well I worry about everything but .... :( that in particular. I haven't weighed him lately but think he is around 160lbs.

Zeke started out the smallest in his litter. At 10 weeks old he was 15 pounds. Now, At almost 11 months, he is 31 inches at the shoulder and 125 pounds. We recently met another male Newf that's 3 years old and comes from the same father as Zeke. He is 33 inches and 183 pounds. I'm thinking I've got a REALLY BIG boy on my hands. :shocker:

Gabe had most of his height by the time he was a year old. Then just before he turned three he had a sudden growth spurt and grew almost another inch!
He is about 28 1/2 at the shoulder and, despite my best efforts, 136 lb. He could lose 8 or ten and be fine.

Thanks for the responses, yet I will reiterate that I more wanted a guideline if memory is there of height in relation to time frame. Not just what they are now as some did.
I just wanted to have an idea of what to expect.
thank you, and were you surprised because along the way with his growth because you thought he was going to be short or tall

Cole was a pretty big puppy. And grew accordingly. He weighed 25 lbs at 10 weeks...and 53 lbs at 16 weeks. His feet were HUGE! And he had heavy bone. I wasn't surprised at his size.

Mira was tiny weight wise. The runt of her litter. She weighed 15 lbs at 10 weeks. She doesn't have a lot of bone...and grew to be a normal sized female Newf, yet on the "lighter" side (weight wise). She was always very slender...and still is. She weighs about 103....at 27".

Molly was bulkier as a baby. She weighed 22 lbs at 10 weeks. Also grew to be 27" but has more bone, and a whole different body shape. She's best at around 123...but now weighs 124.5 (down from 128). Keeping her at a healthy weight is a struggle. She tends to gain easily and quickly.

None since Mira has surprised me, growth wise. She was our first, so I didn't know what to expect. Now I do. They've grown exactly as they started out...bigger or smaller (overall, not just height).

The parents give a clue as to how, once grown, your Newf will look. You can look back into the lines, and get an even better picture. If they're tall, short, big boned, or not...that's generally close to what you'll end up with.

We had the same with Capri. She really grew those last inches right before she turned three. After that she's still been growing, at least till she turned five. I think that's going to be her final size. :)

I have a whole growth chart at home where I measured weight and height weekly for the first 8 months, then monthly or so for another 8 months just so I could monitor his growth. I don't have the chart in front of me, but it was pretty handy and I'm sure I'll do the same for Boatswain. I do remember that at 10 weeks Byron was right at 20 pounds, which I felt was pretty average.

He stopped growing upward soon after he turned one--from that point he just started filling out. Now, at 4, he's 28" and hovers around 130.

I looked back at my chart for Jordan:
1) At 11 weeks, 30 lbs.
2) At 3 mos, 34 lbs, 16"
3) At 6 mos 88 lbs, 26"
4) nothing recorded at 12 mos, where was I?
5) At 14.5 mos, 133.4 lbs, 29".
Jordan didn't really start filling out until after the age of 2. He was neutered at 2.5 yrs. He is 4 now and his weight fluctuates between 145-150 lbs. He was a gangly child.
