Ok...My newest foster failure is a male landseer newfie. What a sweet, sweet boy he is; even after everything this poor boy has gone through in his short life.

He will be 3 in Dec....Anyway...I am very adamant about changing his name. Nothing to drastic, as not to totally confuse him...
However...I need a name that sort of sounds like Lenny...Len...or at least has that sort of sound somewhere in the name...Make sense??? Now keep in mind...I have a Ben already...sometimes we call him a few nicknames...Benny..Big B...Booboo..So can't have anything that will confuse Ben either... We have been mulling around the name Halen...but I just don't know....Any ideas??

I went to school with a boy named Galen, and always liked the name. What about something like Huey? Or Larry? Mmmmm, will keep thinking.

Actually, you may want to find something COMPLETELY different sounding. At first, he may not know it's his name, but he will learn it.

We changed Brenna's, and are glad we did. She got used to it.

My husband suggested the name "Spot" for a landseer...but he's had a glass of wine already.

How about show us a pic, so we can see what he "looks" like. I always have to see a pet, to be able to pick a name.

I always thought Sawyer was a great name. Another idea, look at a map of Newfoundland and pick out a name from the towns, parks or bays. If you've never really looked at Newfoundland, you will be amazed at some of the names. Quite funny actually.

Hmmm, off the top of my head....Hamilton and Godfrey are names that popped into my head as I created SSID names for networks, no rhyme or reason behind them, they just popped up. Sandler, Kutcher, Mac (short for McConaughey), Stiller....whichever actor fit the personality. I'd go with a different name entirely. But if you're stuck wanting something close, how about Lon/Lonnie, Lars, or Quinn. Geez, how come I couldn't come up with names when naming my "own" dogs. Have fun picking a name.

I agree with those that said pick any name you want. When Scarlett came to us we had no idea what her name was. The vet had been calling her Goldie, which we disliked. We decided to give her a new name with her new life, and it took her about 20 minutes to figure out she was Scarlett. So, have fun with the name change.

When Truman was due to arrive, we spent a lot of time on the Social Security Baby Names website.

The best part is you can choose any year and it will show you the most popular names as long as it was more recent than 1879. To get to the more colorful names it helps to look at the top 100-500. The top 20 tend to be the usual.

It's also interesting to track imigration patterns with nothing more than first names.

It's actually a lot of fun! And helpful for newf naming.

Isaac's third owners renamed him Atticus. When he got to me (his 5th) I didn't like that name at all. It sounded dark and foreboding, like a gathering storm. So I got some treats, and called him (Isaac!) when he looked, I tossed him one and said, "good boy, Isaac" I think it took three repititions before he realized it was his name. These are smart puppies!

Atticus, of course, pays tribute to a classic fictional character.

Then again, if the boy answers to Isaac, sounds like he chose his OWN name!

When Tug's Mom came to my house, she was called 'Fiji' because she was kicked out of the car on an island.
She didn't look like a 'Fiji' and she didn't respond to the name, either.
When I tried different names with her, she perked her ears when I said 'Sienna'.
Sometimes a fresh start needs a fresh name without the bad memories attached.
We need a picture please

Thanks everyone for the name help. With my other animals...I knew right away what to call them. But with Len...I can't seem to find one that fits.

Terrie, I agree...From what I have been told by other rescues, I should change his name. The circumstances he came from, he needs no memories of what he entailed. This boy needs a great name!

Thanks again to all of you. I will update with pic and his new name.

I just read an article in Dog Logic and they say to definitely give a completely different name,so as not to associate a name with past tramatic experiences..cant wait for pics
