Newf people

I am here in Chattanooga at the show (my first conformation entry ever) and while I am out walking Magic at the hotel this truck pulls up. Though I'm used to people stopping to ask about the newfs it was a bit creepy since it is near a busy road and he made a uturn. He puts down his window and says the usual nice things about the newf and then says he has been all over the country showing and it doesn't ever matter what town or state he is in that by far and away Newfie people are always the most friendly and helpful but he never gets a chance to tell them so he wanted to stop and finally say that to one of us. I said well it's my first show but I'll pass it on to the newf world! :)

Weird, but I thought it was a nice compliment. :)

That's great that he took the time to tell you that.
Reminds me of the time I was out walking Clifford and a group of teen boys pulled their car over and rolled down the window. I stood waiting for some negative stupid comments, but instead got " Wow, that's a really cool dog" "What kind is it" and a few more nice comments about Clifford.

I'm always surpised by the teenaged and preteen boys who are usually too cool for ANYTHING but their eyes light up when they see Gilly and some even ask about her breed or make a comment about how cool she is!

Hi
My licence plate is luvmynwf. I have had people on the highway (when we're stuck in traffic) roll down their windows to ask me all about my wonderful Newf. I've had people in parking lots waiting for me at my van wanting to talk to me about owning a Newf. Last long weekend when I had to go through a RIDE check by the police the officer just wanted to talk about my Newf. I think Newfs make everyone friendlier. Of course, just look at that face!

At the river where we swim Thunder gets comments of the nice variety and surprisingly for the deep South several people knew what he was.

The comment is Right!! Newf folks are so GOOD. Slobber: it's part of the breed, get over it already, hair: you'll either work like a dog to keep the Newf groomed or pay Fort Knox to do it for you.

These dogs are total honey's and attrack salt-of-the-earth type ppl, who care and love them. No others need apply.

I've always found fellow Newf-owners to be the best folks....They will DEAL with Dogs on a first-name basis, with all the 'stuff' that comes from bringing one into your home....

In the shopping center up the road a bit, there's a pub. It's nice as far as pubs go, and on the weekend afternoons when the weather is nice, a bunch of bikers always show up, usually wearing leather vests, jeans, bandanas and tattooed all over the place.

Yesterday I was in the parking lot, and had to stop to let a car back out of a spot. Maggie was hanging out the window. One of them saw her, and yelled, "Hey Buzzy, look at this dog!" And then Buzzy and his friend proceeded to yell, " Hi pretty puppy, and Who's a pretty puppy?!" over and over to her in these high pitched voices. She loved it, and barked at them, wagging her tail.

I think anyone who owns a Newf or enjoys a big, slobbery dog is nice, easy going and as friendly as their dogs!

It doesn't get any better than bikers talking baby talk to your Newf! Haha-that's a great story!

I agree with that, Dawn. You can't be too haughty or snobbish when you have slobber & hair all over your clothes ALL the time, lol.

I had to walk my dog in front of a group of young teen boys with jeans down to their knees showing off their favorite boxers. One or two of them were smoking. I thought....here come the snide comments, but one told me I had a cool dog and another said, "Yeah, cool dog. Is that a Bassett?" I then thanked them for the compliment and let them all know he was a Newfoundland.

I think your choice in dog is somewhat of a reflection of the person. Perhaps newfie people really are just nicer (in general, I've met some that I wouldn't invite to my birthday party). :p
