Newf in Ontario

Debra:

I happen to have kept my membership in the SENC when I moved from South Carolina to Virginia. Just so you know, they don't have a problem with "foster failures" if you happen to "foster" the right dog. I can tell one or two stories about them calling me up to help transport dogs that they thought would be a good fit for me, so they can be sneaky that way... :D

I know Brad. I appreciate the gesture of trying to make me feel better. Thank you!!
The SENC is a good group of people. I know things can happen.
Thanks Susan, Linda and Barry and Sandra also. Support is a good thing!! I hope this boy gets placed in a home that will make him happy for a lot of years to come.
I still can't bring myself to call that handosme boy Kong though:whistling:

my husband and I have been opening our hearts for another newf, we have 2. We live in a neighborhood that is on the edge of a park. We have a large dog kennel under our house and we have had our newfs for 3 years so we know what to expect...There are 2 problems, would he be OK in Charleston,SC? It's hot here in the summer, but we have a pool and keep the dogs inside in the hotest months..Second would be the specifics of getting a newf from Ontario to South Carolina....Let me know if he needs to come here for a forever home, we felt like he had a great smile from his picture, and we have a lot of room and love to share
Jill

If he has gotten a home we are glad and would love to hear from any one that knows of a newf needing a home in SC

Debra,
Maybe it is for the best because then you will have room for fosters.... it's probably got it's bittersweet moments ... but talk about earning your wings.... you'll be doing it. I've never thought I would be "strong" enough to foster. I could barely do rescue transport without falling irretrievabley in love with each newf that went thru my car. Sigh.

Not to be rude and trust me I don't mean to be but the entire reason I withdrew my application was so he would not have to travel from Ontario to NORTH CAROLINA on a 19 hour trip in the back of 10 different vans or SUV's.:whistling:
Your gesture is a wonderul one and I'm sure he would appreicate it very much. He will more than likely be placed a bit closer to his current foster. There are a few applications up in the area.
It sounds like you have the perfect set up at your place to give any Newf a great home.:bear:
If you are interested in foster you can always contact SENC and fill out an application for rescue. It's a pretty standard process and one that I'm certain will be appreciated. There are a few steps that need attention and once they're completed you'll be wing-waiting until needed.
(BTW: Nice to meet you Jill)

THANKS for the kind words Liz..You're right..its hard just seeing them let alone fostering.

I agree, it would be a long ride (and I have applied to our SE newf rescue)...My husband would have gone with our SUV to get him...we just worry about northern bred dogs and their adjustment to the humid south..our dogs were from NC., they have done well with the heat, but we really watch them and let them swim. I don't think you were rude...Just like with our children, the best for them is what we want...After your application was withdrawn, I just want to make sure someone who loves newfs will give him a forever home....And again..we are looking to add to our family this year so please everyone keep us in mind!!!!!!

Again, it really is a closed issue. I never would have withdrawn my application had he not had several up in the Ontario area that were pending. Otherwise I'm sure we would have found a way to get him here.
Thanks again for your concern about his welfare though. He is in good hands and Sandra will make the absolute best possible decision for his well being.

WELCOME!!!!! I happened to live in the Charleston, SC area for 23 YEARS before moving to Williamsburg! So I know EXACTLY what you mean by the summers.

First off, the pool is a VERY good idea for a Newf there. Second, I basically NEVER let my Newf out of the house there in Summer unless I was walking it! When I say Summer, I mean from EARLY May to Mid October in Charleston!

No kidding ... just looking at these pictures here make my heart do funny things. Please keep us informed as to your foster experiences. I'm so glad you can do it. There seem to be SO many in rescue these days.

To Jill and Brad,

I realize we are in the great white north here and people often think we travel all year on snowshoes. I would just like to tell you that our summers are brutally hot and humid with temps well into the 100's. I'm right in the heart of the city and hot temps coupled with the heat from cars can be severe. I never walk my Newfs mid day in the summer. In fact they often don't get out for walks in the evenings either as humidity can be high. I do their walks very early in the morning (around 5:30) and they get to go in the yard as often as they need to but are called back in right away to the air conditioned house. My yard is always cool and shady as there are lovely trees there and though I have two huge baby pools neither of my Newfs will use them. My Bria actually thinks it's a big water dish and will stand in it to drink. So though our summer months may not be as long or as hot I assure you it gets steamy here.

Hey Vicky

I was just earlier noticing one of your posts and that you are in Ont. as well. Yes the GTA is certainly no haven for Newfs in the summer.

I love your baby's pic.
