My Girl is Growing Up!

Yesterday Maggie and I went for a walk-our first "big" walk in 19 months. (ankle surgery caused by someone digging holes :shuffle: ) Anyway, when we got to the park, it was crawling with little kids playing soccer. There was a tournament going on, and I honestly thought about going home. She's a first class puller, and while we had it under control before, walks were pretty much non-existant as I could barely walk during those 19 months.

She was WONDERFUL! There was no lunging towards the kids, or the balls at all! She watched them, and wagged her tail, but didn't try to run on the field, chase anyone, or steal a ball or two. One family stopped to pet her, and she was calm, and said hi to everyone. One little girl was allergic to dogs, and stood to the side, and when Maggie leaned towards her, I told her to leave her, and she did! She even left the Goose poop alone-there was no trying to eat it on the run.

When we were ready to leave, she got in the truck with no hassle. We've had a few ( a lot ) incidents where she decides she doesn't want to leave, and will flop on the ground doing her best flailing-alligator impression. We've had 45 minute parking lot breaks where she's done this.

I'm a proud Mama.

You finally have your gentle giant Dawn. I've recently been experiencing the same thing. It's kinda' like the twilight zone.

Well that was short-lived. I came home last night to trash strewn from one end of my kitchen to the other. When I walked in, I said, "What did you DO?!" And she gleefully ran into the kitchen, grabbed a piece of trash and brought it to me. Then she ran back into the kitchen and smooshed her nose on the treat cabinet to tell me she wanted one.

Tail wagging the whole time. She was pretty darn proud of herself. :!rolling:

Well, no one should expect perfection! LOL However, she did bring you a piece of trash to show you what she did. This means that she did a fun thing and she was happy to show you. She has no clue she was bad. Perhaps scolding her when she shows signs of putting her head into the trash can or any time she gets near it express to her clearly that this thing is a "no - no". Otherwise, be proud of her. . .she did great!

Oh, she knows! All I have to do is "eh eh" and she leaves it. She's never ( that I can remember ) scavenged in the trash before. She was quite please with herself, and it was obviously a good time.

She did help pick it up though.
