If you put your hand around the top of his muzzle and press against the gums it kind of forces them to open their mouth. You can also wet the pill before to make it go down easier.

Usually I can just throw their pills in with their food, but Scarlett has been on a lot of really nasty pills lately. She started eating around them, so I just started sticking them into a ravioli. She can't pass that up and down they go.

Also putting a little butter on it to help it slide down will help.

This is also really good training for him....you should be looking in his mouth, eyes, ears, handling his feet, etc. now so that he will willingly let you do it later. Lots of treats and praise for good behavior with these things.

Yea, that's the one thing we're working on is letting me in his mouth...the rest he's good at. I'll use that technique for opening his mouth, and just get him used to it. So far he's eaten all his pills in his food. Don't worry - the chiweenie GLADLY accepts the uneaten hotdogs.
