I fed Tess some fruit this morning at 9:30 and at 3 pm she regurgetated her supper right after eating. The fruit was not digested at all. I had a GR that had ME. However I do not recall her having wretching attacks the way Tess does. I will feed her smaller amounts from now on and call the vet tomorrow.

I was concerned about the undigested cantelope and honey dew melon. It looked like she had just swallowed it.

I hope you got good news at the vet. For what it's worth, I had a Newf who had megaesophagus from myasthenia gravis. He didn't retch at all. He would just open his mouth and regurgitate. It often came out in a tube shape.

Our Murphy has megasophagus. I had never heard of it before. I've been making head cheese for him (soft food) to try and help with it, but it is getting more and more difficult balancing the pain meds and the stomach meds. It is so hard watching him when he starts heaving knowing there is nothing more I can do to help him. Any suggestions??

There is a feeding box you can make where they stay upright more when eating.

Try satin balls for the meds.also they have to stay in the box for about half hour to allow the food to go down.saw it on a vets program but cant remember which one.

I used to feed my GR on the stairs to aid the food in the downward direction. However it does not keep them upright for any length of time. Be very careful about how much you feed at once, I broke feeding into three meals. Everything else they put in their mouths has to be considered. I learned the hard way when I gave my Golden a bone and she asperated and colapsed.

If you google "Bailey chair", you can find information on the box to hold them upright. We were looking into it for our Claude, who had megaesophagus from myasthenia gravis, but he developed severe complications from the myasthenia and didn't make it. That was 7 years ago, but at that time there was an online group for owners of dogs with megaesophagus that was very helpful. I bet there's one on Facebook.
The vet had us feed Claude balls made of canned food and keep him sitting up as long as possible after eating.
