Can anyone give me a recommendation what blade size I need for a Mars Coat King? Orion is neutered and his coat is very fine but LOTS of it!
Thanks for the help!

Yes you want to 18 blade double wide. The best place to purchase them is at www.groomersmall.com I suggest getting an extra set of blades because you'll go through the first one very quickly getting out the massive coat.

For those of you on the West Coast of Canada - I found this retailer:
http://excalibur.bc.ca/
It's in Surrey, BC - easier for us than ordering online from the US.
We're getting a Coat King for Laughlin based on the many recommendations here.

Wow they have a double wide 12 blade. I bet it would be better for removing undercoat. I'd like to try one. I'm going to search for replacement blades and see if I can just get the blades.

Oh thanks so much!!! Jeanie...would it be better to have the 12 or the 18 or both??? Now that I have 3 furkids (Orion, Murtuagh and now baby Seamus) I will have to do most of the grooming myself!

I have never used the 12 so I can't say how it would do. If I were you I'd get the tried and approved 18 blade double wide.

Love the 18 double wide. Also have a smaller one for behind/under ears and neck. I think it's a 14 regular. That one was suggested by one of the people I showed with. Love both of them!

Ok this may sound dumb, but where exactly do you use the Mars Coat king on the dog, is it all over the body or just in specific areas. My dogs don't have really thick coats, and I'm not sure I need one, the rake gets out the undercoat okay. Do you only use them on really thick coated dogs?

I personally use that thing everywhere except for the insides of the thighs. Some areas get weed-whacked more vigorously than others though, it all depends on your dog's coat and where it is thickest.

Here's my hard-sell photo of Nanook. I used the MCK on him for about an hour and a half to two hours and this was the result.

I could not live without it.

I also have the 8 blade that has 5mm spacing which I really like. Since the blades are farther apart it seems to go deeper into the undercoat.

Thanks for the link Eleanor, I didn't know about them. Usually I have to order from Pet Supply House in Guelph.
My MCK is 10 blade btw.

We got ours home yesterday, and I tried it out on Laughlin last night. It works really well. Thanks Jeannie and everyone who recommended it.
Angela - glad the link is helpful for you. We get his shampoo from them, too, and they seem really good.

On a side note.... I found this very helpful

Evolution double row undercoate rake. The prongs rotate to help tangles and go through mats.

Nessa:

There is a woman in the town near me that buys dog fur by the pound and spins it with wool to make dog fur hats, headbands, mittens etc.

We have a plethora of huskies up here so she absolutely loves it when I brush Sushi! Next time you have that much fur send up it to AK :)

This may sound stupid, but just how wide is the Mars double wide? I just got one in the mail from an online order and it's only 3" wide. this seems small for a Newf.
