low thyroid

After looking at Dr. Dodd's site a bit more I'm confused. It says to do the thyroid testing at certain times during the heat cycle. Is that the only time to get an accurate test? I am way tired after only a few hrs of sleep last night so I may not be reading it correctly. I know the thyroid is typically an easily treated problem and honestly was not surprised that she is low. Should I have Max checked too since he is her brother? Could this cause her clotting and platelets to be off too?
Thanks

You can call Dr. Dodds and ask. If she's there she'll talk to you. Or you could email her. Or ask your Vet about those questions.

I do know that the reproductive cycle can cause the thyroid readings to fluctuate. When Mira got spayed, her thyroid totally crashed, temporarily. She did bounce back but it took time.

I will send her an email. My mother said that with her Yorkies that if they are in heat it can mess up all kinds of test, even the acid bile test for the liver shunt.
I expected the vet to call me back tonight but I guess she didn't have anything to add from earlier.

Yes, it can be as its a little known symptom. You really need to work with Dr. Dodds, and yes timing of blood draw in relation to heat cycle can effect results.

O.K. thanks for the replies. After talking to my vet again yesterday, I found out that her platelets were only slightly low (150 norm= 175-500) which makes me feel some better. Gypsy generally comes into season around Jan/June which was why she thought now would be the ideal time to have her fixed. I am waiting for the results from Dr. Dobbs. By being around my girl you would have no idea that something is off since she is still as hard-headed, rambunctious, and loving as usual.

Well surprising call that her thyroid is normal. She (vet) wants to do the compounded K3 for 10 days then recheck.
