Leg Shake/Twitch

I was wondering how many people have experienced the Leg twitch/Shaking in their Newfs...I had noticed Luci with the front leg twitch pretty much from the first couple of weeks that I got her. I went and did a search here on NN and saw a few mentions of it and it eased my mind that it was nothing to be really concerned about. Then I noticed that Roman has the same twitch as well - Luci's is a bit more noticable - probably because of her white front legs, it is just easier to see. It doesn't happen ALL of the time - but enough for me to take notice.

I was just wondering if this is something that MOST Newfs get.....do they outgrow it? Does it have anything to do with growing or is this something that they may possibly have forever?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Gabriel will be six in June (!) and he has done this since he was a puppy. Doesn't seem to get any worse, or better. Doesn't seem to bother him in the least.
I have had a couple discussions with the regular vet and his cardiologist about it. While neither could say exactly why some do this, neither is concerned about it.

P.S. When this happens he is almost always sitting...though on rare occasions he does it standing...

Max twitches and shakes his legs often...normally when lying down but occasionally when standing...it doesn't seem like "doggie dreams". We have been assured by our vet and a few longtime Newf breeders that this is not uncommon.
I know it is worrisome! BYW...Max is 4.5 and it started when he was about 10 months old.

Sydney (not a newf) does this too, with her back leg. I've noticed it while she's standing and sometimes laying down. If I rub or scratch the leg it usually stops.

River (14 mos) has front leg tremblies occasionally. It's always when she's sitting down, and it's the leg she doesn't have her full weight on. I saw the same info on here and tried not to worry. Doesn't bother her, doesn't bother me (mostly).

My newf-mix also has the shakes. His rear legs tend to tremor either when he is soooooo excited (e.g., going in the van for a ride, when one of his favorite people come to see him, etc.), or when he is tired (e.g., when we return from the dog park or a walk). The tremors can happen either when he is standing or lying down.

Boaz also has the shakes in his front legs at times, only when he is sitting. I wondered about this, so I'm glad to see this post, and that this is nothing to worry about. It doesn't bother him at all. I feel better now! :bear:

It has to do with the leg being in a somewhat of an unatural position.
Sit yourself in a chair with your legs at a 45 degree angle to the floor. Cross your legs making sure to leave the ball of your foot planted firmly on the ground . Raise your heel off of the ground sloooooowly. You will feel a point while you are raising it that your lower leg will tremor.
There's nothing wrong with your Pup. She just has not equally distributed all of her weight evenly.

Thanks everyone!

When I first noticed it with Luci (she was still a young pup) I got nervious. I had gone into the archives and saw a few posts that said that it was nothing to be concerned about - so it eased my mind. Then I noticed Roman doing it....I was just not sure if it was a 'puppy/growing' thing - or a Newf/Giant Breed thing. If they outgrew it, or it would just be something they always did. Having had GSD's for 25 years, I had never seen that before.

Luci & Roman both do it - mostly when sitting down - but I have seen it when they stand too (I really have never noticed it when they lied down) And like I said, I see it more with Luci - maybe because its just easier to see with Luci having the white front legs.....

:sunflower: I appreciate the feedback!
