I received a huge fright last Friday , when we found Katy paralysed... she was unable to lift her backend.......... I thought it was the end for her.

Some of you will have seen this on FB...

But after three days of Intravenous Dexamethasone (cortisone) and now on heavy doses of oral cortisone that we are tapering down after this week. She seems to have some function again.

She has ben able to pee and poop when we have walked her in her harness and never became incontinent or unable to go...PHEWWWWW.

but this morning she made my day, by getting up herself and coming to join me for breakfast.

I hope she will be OK... all she has to be able to do is walk in our gardens and pastures, swim at her leisure and pee and poop. I think her working days are finished.

She is my heart dog and always been a great friend. A very special dog, who can be trusted 100% around people and animals.......She is my behaviour training partner as she knows how to relax other dogs by just being there. She is a water training dog, pretty good at it and loves Rally O. And her specialty is visiting kids with special needs and cancer at Hospitals. I hope that she can return to this, but she does not have to. I just want her to be happy and comfortable.

Did they x-ray her spine.its just that it sounds like a bulging disc problem.

If you can get to see the UK superset program with Noel Fitzpatrick on it.watch it as it may give you some ideas.

In the meantime l hope Katy goes from strength to strength

omg, what did xrays show? How old is she Ronnie? Is there a diagnosis?
Hope she will get stronger soon. Hugs.

Because the reaction to the dexamethasone was so quick it was not a physical thing...Most likely inflammation So we are treating symptoms. Katy will not be having surgery at seven plus. We nearly lost her during her TPLO. She is one of THOSE newfies and again nearly when she was desexed. Even though there were two vets in attendance. She is now a lot older and a greater risk. So no anaesthetics for this girl.

Our Sadie had something like that. We let her out in the yard to potty and she couldn't walk back in. Vet gave her the same meds that Katy is getting. As we tapered down the dose it all came back. She had a mass on her spine. Sadly we had to put her out of her extreme pain. I hope and pray you have a different out come with Katy.

Sounds just like what happened to Myra last year, scared the dickens out of me. Hopefully, she will bounce back like Myra did! I do think it was some type of inflammation of her spine, due to a fall she took when escaping from the vacuum. What I found really interesting was we took her to a rehab and the lady was awesome. She did a neuro test with her feet and a piece of paper and the results we're right in front of our eye's, you could see that she has something neurological going on her left side. Wishing you the best possible! Heal Katie....HEAL!
